Prillaman, Florian continue title duel in weekend doubleheader
ARENA RACING HAMPTON ROADS
at Hampton (Va.) Coliseum Update: Prillaman, Florian continue title duel in weekend doubleheader Wednesday, Mar. 3, 2010 HAMPTON, Va. (Mar. 3) — For the first time in nearly two years, Arena Racing Hampton Roads holds back-to-back events when its Pro and Youth Series roll into the Hampton Coliseum for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader weekend on Mar. 5 and 6. For Friday’s Chick-fil-A 200/All Faiths Night, doors open at 6:30 p.m. to kick off the pre-race pit party and racing gets under way at 7:30. Solace, a Christian rock band, is slated to perform during the intermission. All tickets are just $5 — the final $5 event of the season. Tiny race enthusiasts (under 3) are admitted free. Saturday brings the American Cancer Society 200, which is a makeup for the Sunbelt Equipment Rentals/Daily Press event that was snowed out on Jan. 31. Doors open at 6 and racing begins at 7. Tickets are $10 for adults. When purchased at the Coliseum box office, each regularly-priced adult ticket also includes one free kids (3-12) ticket. Additional kids tickets are $5. Military personnel (with ID), senior citizens (65+, with ID) and students (13-18) receive a $2 discount off the adult ticket price. Pint-sized fans (under 3) are admitted free. Each night’s Pro Series lineup includes A, B and C Mains — 50 laps apiece. The top six finishers from the A Main and the top four finishers from the B and C Mains make up the 14-car starting grid for the grand finale, the 50-lap Top Dog feature. Meanwhile, Youth Series competitors will try to break Connor Hall’s stranglehold on Victory Lane. Hall is undefeated in five races. Tickets are available at the Coliseum box office, Ticketmaster locations and online at <www.ticketmaster.com>. A service fee will be added to each ticket purchase. • • • Defending series champ Adam Florian shaved a single point from Scott Prillaman’s Pro Series lead last Saturday night and now trails by 11 points, 347-336, with four races to go in the 2009-10 campaign. Travis Wall, Charlie Green and Derek Miller rank third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Arena Racing Hampton Roads Pro Series Current Top 10 (through Event 11 of 15): 1. Scott Prillaman, 347; 2. Adam Florian, 336; 3. Travis Wall, 311; 4. Charlie Green, 302; 5. Derek Miller, 297; 6. Spencer Saunders, 289; tie Jordan Wood, 289; 8. Robbie Davis, 279; 9. Aaron Leach, 267; 10. Nelson Moody, 258; tie Brittany Bangas, 258. With each driver’s two worst outings (poor finishes or missed events) being tossed before the final standings are calculated, the chase for the $10,000 Pro Series crown becomes even more interesting. In the “adjusted” rundown, Prillaman’s lead over Florian shrinks to only four, 290-286. • • • The American Cancer Society can trace its roots to the American Society for the Control of Cancer, which was formed in 1913. The present-day organization was founded in 1945 and boasts over two million volunteers who carry out the Society’s mission of eliminating cancer and improving the quality of life for cancer patients through research, education, legislative advocacy and service. Over the years, the Society has provided over $3 billion in research funding, including support for 44 Nobel Prize winners. Arena Racing Hampton Roads can fill the bill with group ticket packages for birthday parties, church and youth groups, school organizations, civic and social clubs, etc. For complete details, contact the Arena Racing Hampton Roads office at (757) 216-4426. • • • Following this Friday and Saturday’s meets, Arena Racing Hampton Roads’ drivers and teams will take a week off to gird for a furious two-week dash to the end of the season. Action resumes at the Hampton Coliseum on Friday, Mar. 19, with the Old Point National Bank 200 to benefit the Center for Child & Family Services. Doors open at 6:30 and racing starts at 7:30. The last event on this season’s calendar, the Great Atlantic 200 to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 27. • • • To learn more about Arena Racing USA, fans may visit the series’ Web site — www.ArenaRacingUSA.com. |
