Morgan, Prillaman lead field into Saturday's event
HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 4) — Early season points leaders Patrick Morgan and Scott Prillaman lead the charge as Arena Racing Hampton Roads returns to the Hampton Coliseum this Saturday, Nov. 7, for the third event on its 2009-10 calendar.
This week’s lineup includes A, B and C Mains — 50 laps each. The top six finishers from the A Main and the top four finishers from the B and C Mains advance to the 50-lap Top Dog race, the final race of the evening. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for the pre-race pit party — an excellent opportunity to meet the drivers and get an up-close look at the cars. Following opening ceremonies, the evening’s racing program kicks off at 7. Drivers will also hobnob with fans on the concourse after the Top Dog feature. Tickets are $10 for adults. When purchased the Coliseum box office, each regularly-priced adult ticket also includes one free kids (3-12) ticket. Additional kids tickets are $5. Military personnel (with ID), senior citizens (65+, with ID) and students (13-18) receive a $2 discount off the adult ticket price. Tiny race fans (under 3) are admitted free. Tickets are available at the Coliseum box office, Ticketmaster locations and online at <www.ticketmaster.com>. A service fee will be added to each ticket purchase. • • • After struggling to keep pace in the season-opening Top Dog race, occupants of the outside lane more than held their own on the six double-file restarts last Saturday. That was particularly evident on the final restart when Spencer Saunders used the high line to good effect and nosed out Scott Prillaman for the race win. According to Arena Racing Hampton Roads boss Blake Murphy, an effort was made during afternoon practice rounds to work in the outer groove, so some grip would be available up top when race time arrived. Drivers were also reminded to use “common sense” to ensure orderly and fair restarts. • • • Two races into the current campaign, Patrick Morgan and Scott Prillaman have put a little distance between themselves and the rest of the pack in the series standings. Morgan holds a one-point advantage, 64-63. Arena Racing Hampton Roads Top 10 (through Race 2 of 15): 1. Patrick Morgan, 64; 2. Scott Prillaman, 63; 3. Adam Florian, 57; 4. Derek Miller, 55; 5. Charlie Green, 54; tie Robbie Davis, 54; 7. Travis Wall, 52; tie Cody Turbitt, 52; 9. Spencer Saunders, 51; tie Curtis Hughes, 51. At the end of the season, each driver’s two worst outings (poor finishes or missed races) will be dropped from consideration before the final standings are tabulated. • • • Looking for something a little different for your group’s next outing? Something a little “in-your-face”? Something a little extreme? Arena Racing Hampton Roads can fill the bill with group ticket packages for birthday parties, church and youth groups, school organizations, civic and social clubs, etc. For complete details, contact the Arena Racing Hampton Roads office at (757) 216-4426. • • • Arena Racing Hampton Roads will take a breather next weekend as the Hampton Coliseum plays host to two nights of monster truck competition. Arena Racing action resumes on Saturday, Nov. 21, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and racing getting under way at 7. • • • To learn more about Arena Racing USA, fans may visit the series’ Web site — www.ArenaRacingUSA.com.
