According to article in Burlington Times News, the auction fizzled when only one bidder showed up. I'm curious who that was. Apparently, they still have the option to bid online for up to two weeks.

What really surprised me was the fact that anyone who wanted to bid had to buy their way into the auction. The cost was $100,000 NON-REFUNDABLE. Given this economy, I can understand why nobody showed. That's a lot of cash to put up front and maybe lose. I think I need to start an auction company if they are pulling that kind of money down.

Speaking of auction houses, why was a local firm from Alamance County used instead of a national firm? May have had better results?

I know this has been a tough week out there what with this coming on the heels of Cook's DQ and losing the chance of having the ASA National Champ. Hang in there Brad. Don't get frustrated over the crap you have no control over.

Richards Registers First-Ever 100-Lap Victory In Mohawk International Raceway’s ‘Battle At Eastern Door’ On Wednesday Night

AKWESASNE, NY - Sept. 1, 2010 - Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., registered the biggest win of his career on Wednesday night, capturing the rescheduled World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Battle At Eastern Door’ at Mohawk International Raceway.
The triumph was important to the 22-year-old sensation for many reasons. It broke him out of a summer slump, brought him a personal-high feature-win payoff of $20,775, pushed him back into the WoO LMS points lead and, most notably, gave him his long-awaited first 100-lap A-Main checkered flag as a dirt Late Model driver.
“It feels great to finally win one of these 100-lappers,” said Richards, who earned his series-leading seventh victory of the 2010 season. “This isn’t a crown-jewel event, but it’s a 100-lapper and that’s all that matters. We finally got one under our belt after seven years of trying and hopefully we can win some more now.”
Richards authored a memorable march to his milestone extra-distance score, recovering from a slow start to steer his Mark Richards Racing Enterprises/Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket car forward from the 10th starting position to pass 2006 tour champion Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., for the lead on lap 79. The defending WoO LMS titlist dominated the remainder of the distance, crossing the finish line 3.314 seconds ahead of McCreadie’s Sweeteners Plus Racing Rocket mount.
WoO LMS rookie Austin Hubbard, 18, of Seaford, Del., settled for third place in Dale Beitler’s Rocket after running as high as second and briefly challenging McCreadie for the lead. Rick Eckert of York, Pa., improved one position from his fifth starting spot to place fourth in his Team Zero by Bloomquist car, and fifth place was claimed by 2008 series champ Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., who entered the event leading the points standings by two markers over Richards but ended it trailing his young rival by eight points.
Richards admitted after the race, which was postponed by rain on its original Aug. 21 date, that he had his doubts about reaching Victory Lane and regaining the points lead.
“The last time we were here (for qualifying on Aug. 20) I felt terrible,” said Richards, who timed 19th-fastest and finished fourth in a heat race. “When we went out tonight for hot laps I was way too tight, and in the second session I felt absolutely terrible. Then, with the way I felt early (in the 100), I figured we’d finish 10th or 15th because I wasn’t really going anywhere.
“But our car really came to us. Mid-race to late-race, it was just like a switch flipped. I could really catch the brown (moisture) off (turn) two and keep my speed up, and all of a sudden we started coming on.”
Richards surged into contention on a lap-40 restart, vaulting from sixth to third in the span of one circuit around the four-tenths-mile oval. He passed Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa., who started from the pole position and led laps 1-26, for second on lap 45 and quickly ran down leader McCreadie, but before he could make a bid a caution flag flew on lap 60 and he lost the runner-up spot to Hubbard on the restart.
Richards moved back into second on lap 70 with a homestretch pass of Hubbard, whose car had become hampered by damage it sustained two laps earlier in a turn-four scrape with McCreadie. McCreadie’s 10 car length edge disappeared with alacrity and Richards sailed into the lead for good with an inside move on lap 79.
Once in command Richards experienced little trouble. He easily handled a lap-90 restart that followed the race’s seventh and final caution flag to reach the finish line without a challenge.
“We just had a phenomenal car for the feature,” said Richards, whose 27th career WoO LMS victory moved him within one score of Ashland, Ky.’s Steve Francis for the top spot on the tour’s win list since 2004. “I knew the race was a hundred laps so I just tried to stay smooth and stay straight – and actually, as fast as the track was, that was probably the smoothest and straightest I’ve run 100 laps.”
McCreadie, 36, was no match for Richards. He led laps 27-78 but had to be content with his fifth runner-up finish of the 2010 tour, keeping him third in the points standings, 48 points behind Richards.
“Maybe we went a little too hard on the left-rear tire,” said McCreadie, whose last start at Mohawk was in a DIRTcar 358-Modified event more than a decade ago. “Josh was several steps softer than I was, and I’d say he was better everywhere (on the track). He drove by us.
“It was an awesome track,” he added, hailing the speedway’s preparation. “You couldn’t hold the fastest car back tonight, that’s for sure.”
Hubbard, meanwhile, was satisfied with a third-place finish, but he felt he lost an opportunity for his first-ever 100-lap victory due to the lap-68 contact with McCreadie. They came together exiting turn four when Hubbard tried an inside move that intersected with the groove that McCreadie was running off the corner.
“Me and McCreadie were just running two different lines,” said Hubbard, who started eighth. “He would peel down later than I would and we just hit off of (turn) four. It knocked my right-front tow out and I was just kinda holding on from there.
“I definitely thought we had a shot at winning it. We ran (McCreadie) down, so I don’t see why we couldn’t have passed him. It’s just the situation that happened that ruined our chances.”
WoO LMS regulars Francis and Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y., were among the drivers who ran into trouble during the 100.
Francis spun between turns one and two on a lap-27 restart – after apparent contact with Richards – and swept up Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., and Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., who slid off the track in turn two to bring out a caution flag. Francis, who was running sixth at the time, pitted to repair some bodywork damage and returned on the lead lap.
Fuller suffered an even tougher fate, spinning out of third place on a lap-40 restart after contact from Hubbard amid a scramble between turns one and two. Fuller restarted at the rear of the field and charged forward to salvage a sixth-place finish with a car he felt was capable of winning the 100.
Frank slipped to seventh at the finish. DIRTcar big-block and 358-Modified star Dale Planck of Homer, N.Y., who made his third dirt Late Model start in a week as a teammate to Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs of Bear Lake, Pa., finished eighth after passing Vic Coffey of Caledonia, N.Y., on the final lap to collect the $500 ‘Bonus Bucks’ cash for being the highest-finishing driver who hasn’t won a WoO LMS A-Main and isn’t ranked among the top 12 in the points standings. Coffey settled for ninth and Francis rounded out the top 10.
Carey Terrance of Hogansburg, N.Y., who competes regularly in Mohawk’s DIRTcar 358-Modified division, drove Chub Frank’s backup car to victory in the 12-lap B-Main. He finished 12th in the 100, remaining on the lead lap until late in the distance.
The WoO LMS heads to Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, Pa., for a big doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday nights (Sept. 4-5) – the sixth annual Oil Region Labor Day Classic presented by Armstrong Cable. A 50-lap A-Main paying $10,000 to win will top each evening’s program.

Moffitt Impresses at Gresham

Grimes, Iowa (August 30, 2010) – Brett Moffitt, Joe Gibbs Racing...

Moffitt Impresses at Gresham

Grimes, Iowa (August 30, 2010) – Brett Moffitt, Joe Gibbs Racing development driver, continued his hot streak of performances at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Georgia. Having come up through the field on two occasions, Moffitt was sitting in a position that would have let him contend for the win in the closing laps, until he was involved in another racer’s accident. Although he did not earn the finish he deserved, he had yet another strong performance to go along with his impressive season.

“I really liked the track,” Moffitt said. “It has tons of grip and is really fast, so it was a blast to race here.”

After a successful test session, the entire #20 JGR Game Plan for Life Toyota team unloaded fast off of the truck, recording the fourth fastest time in the first practice session.

Moffitt qualified a conservative fourteenth for the race, having the car set up for the cooler temperatures for the night race. “The car was loose during qualifying, but we were hoping for it to tighten up after the sun went down during the race,” Moffitt said.

On a track where it is tough to pass, Moffitt took off from the start; cracking the top ten by lap eight. Moffitt then made a daring three wide pass on lap 12 to take the seventh position.

Later in the race on lap 55, Moffitt reported the car as “wrecking loose” and decided to make a pit stop under caution to tighten it up. The crew noticed that the right rear tire was coming apart. NASCAR officials approved a tire change, but this forced Moffitt to restart near the end of the field.

“The car was so loose that I thought I was going to wreck in every turn,” Moffitt said. “Once we changed the tire, the car handled so much better that we were able to run back up through the field.”

By the time the field was stopped on lap 91 for cleanup from an accident, Moffitt had moved up through the field and was back in the top ten.

On lap 132, Moffitt was running inside the top five when Eddie MacDonald spun in front of him. As Moffitt was trying to avoid the spinning car, MacDonald clipped him, sending him head-on into the wall. Moffitt’s and the #20 team’s night was over.

“That was definitely one of the hardest hits I’ve ever taken,” Moffitt said. “It was just a tough night. We were sitting in a good spot with twenty to go, and I really thought we had something for the leaders. It’s disappointing to lose it all at the end.”

Moffitt moved back to fourth in the point standings, but is only two points behind Cole Whitt, who is in third.

The season’s next stop is September 17, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. “I am excited to return to NHMS,” Moffitt said. “We got the pole in June and have always run well there, so it should be a good race for us.”

BUSY HOLIDAY WEEKEND FOR FASTRAK LATE MODELS; MOV TOURING MAKE-UP THURSDAY AT WVMS; $3,000 TO-WIN FRIDAY AT TYLER COUNTY FOR NE & MOV; TRI-CITY ON SUNDAY FOR NE
By Mike Leone

September 1, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pulaski, PA…After a rare weekend off, the FASTRAK Late Model Racing Series will resume action with a busy holiday weekend for the Northeast and Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series. It all begins Thursday night at West Virginia Motor Speedway with a $1,200 to-win make-up feature for the Mid-Ohio Valley followed by the $3,000 to-win Northeast/MOV co-sanctioned event on Friday night at Tyler County Speedway, and finally a $1,200 to-win event on Sunday night for the Northeast.

Thursday night’s field is locked in from competitors that were at the May 16 opener for West Virginia Motor Speedway. The May event brought racing back to the Mineral Wells, WV speed plant for the first time in several years, but rain showered washed out the feature that night. FASTRAK’s first ever completed event at WVMS took place on July 10 when Jonathan Davenport scored the $10,000 National victory. The night prior was to be the May 16 rescheduled feature as well as a new MOV program, but rain washed out that event as well. Joel Prosser and Dan Karalagas will lead the field to green for the 25-lap event.

FASTRAK teams from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Maryland, and Delaware at the very minimum will convene at Tyler County Speedway on Friday night. The third and final Northeast/MOV co-sanctioned event will kickoff the Middlebourne, WV track’s huge “Black Diamond” weekend. Tyler County opened the Northeast and MOV season back on a cold April 17 night when Max Blair topped a record 53-car field. Both Touring Series returned two weeks later only to get part of the program in before rains washed out the event and postponed the feature two weeks later when Mike Blose captured his first career Touring Series win. Friday’s feature will be a 30 lapper with heat races and B mains to determine the line-up for race #16 of 20 on the 2010 slate. The $3,000 to-win, $225 to-start event will be the richest non-National event on both Touring Series’ respective schedules.

“We’re really excited to return to Tyler County Friday night,” stated Northeast/MOV Co-Regional Director Vicki Emig. “Tyler County has been very supported of the FASTRAK program and has been rewarded with strong weekly car counts the last two seasons. We’re very appreciative they stepped up and offered us three Touring Series events in 2010 and especially this $3,000 finale at the track Friday. The racing action is outstanding on the ¼-mile racey surface and we hope to have another strong, quality field of cars battle it out on the bullring. We’ve gotten calls from drivers from all over the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic that are making the trip.”

The busy holiday weekend will wrap Sunday night at Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, PA with the annual “Oil Region Labor Day Classic”. Earlier this season, David Scott emerged victorious in a wild and controversial Northeast Touring Series event for his only win of the season. This year, Tri-City will offer a complete weekly show for FASTRAK on Saturday followed by another full program on Sunday including the 25-lap Northeast Touring Series race #17 of 20 paying $1,200 to-win.

“The Touring Series events at Tri-City have always been great shows,” stated Northeast/MOV Co-Regional Director Mike Leone. “Ironically, Max Blair and Mike Pegher, Jr., who are one-two in points and are one-two atop the all-time win list, have never won a Touring Series event at Tri-City! Tri-City’s shows have always drawn a strong field of cars and it’s always great to join up with the World of Outlaws. We’re thankful that when H&H Motorsports purchased Tri-City from Mike Graham and Roger Crick last year, that they continued their belief in the FASTRAK division.”

The 2010 Northeast Touring Series has been a very competitive one with 10 different winners in 15 races. Mike Pegher, Jr. leads the way with four wins, but Max Blair’s third win of the season came at Raceway 7, which broke the tie with Pegher as he regained the lead in all-time victories at eight. Other winners this season have included Mike Blose, Josh Holtgraver, Robbie Blair, Jonathan Davenport, David Scott, Gary Knollinger, Joe Martin, and most recently Steve Dixon at Woodhull in the first ever Touring Series race in New York.

There have been 49 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 22 different winners all-time in the Northeast Touring Series. Blair leads Pegher eight to seven followed by Dick Barton, Bobby Powell, John Lacki, and Davis Scott with four, Alan Dellinger with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, Jim Frank, Blose, Holtgraver, Robbie Blair, Jonathan Davenport, Gary Knollinger, Joe Martin, and Steve Dixon with one victory.
