Wayne County Speedway once again entertained race fans with some totally awesome racing on the hi-banked 1/3 mile clay oval. However as SUPER as those Late Models are nothing could top the race in the THUNDER & LIGHTING feature. So this week we'll start with that feature in my story, HAT's off to McKeel and Isles they were truly a DYNAMIC DUO if racing has ever seen one. See you next week on Saturday night July 22nd same time same place, “Catch Us if You Can”.
Thunder and Lighting
Princeton's Donnie Odom captured the pole for the 20-lap Thunder & Lighting feature race. At the drop of the green it was on any man in the field had a chance at the number one hot spot but Jerry McKeel Jr set his sight on checkers and would not give it up. Let me tell you I have been involved in racing since 1988 (Wilson Co Speedway days) and The show Jerry Mckeel Jr. and Buddy Isles Sr. put on for our fans was one of the best eyes will ever see. These two guys were side by side , door to door , eyeball to eyeball but never gave in , let up or took out each other . Folk's it don't get any better than this. The seasoned driver that Isles is could not and would not take over the newly earned skill and determination of McKeel Jr. . I have been watching McKeel Jr. race for several years now and he has always been good and aggressive but his fairness and patience has prevailed and he is totally awesome , WCS is proud of the driver he has become. Mckeel captured his first victory of the season at Wayne County Speedway and one that fans will remember for a lifetime. Buddy Isles Sr. of Littleton held on to the door handle for an awesome second place win. The race was so intense even the drivers gave each other a victory hug at the post race interviews. Odom was able to salvage a third place win while Lynn Coombs of Lagrange finished fourth.
Super Late Models
Starting from the pole was the one and only Randy Renfrow driving the mighty machine of Morehead City's Earl Arnold. Renfrow took control of the lead at the drop of the green the track came home to him on the first lap by. However the competition was close and several wanted his space out front. As the laps counted down Renfrow suffered some type of problem and lost the pace and it was on between Princeton's Junior Pearce and Autryville's pride Jeffery Tyndall. Tyndall was able to seize the moment and put his Rocket out front and landed his first victory of the season at WCS. Pearce held on strong for the second place win. Last weeks feature winner Greg Williams of Bailey finished third. Roger Lucas was able to salvage a fourth place win after help from some good friends loaning him the parts to piece the powerplant back together. Renfrow rounded out the top five wins.
SPORTSMAN
It was Kelly Moore that captured the pole and the flag to flag win of the 20-lap Sportsman feature race. Moore took complete control of the lead at the drop of the green and held it strong to land his first victory of the season at WCS. Bailey' Tator Liles and newcomer Charles Harris finished second and third respectively.
ALLSTAR 8
Roanoke Rapids “ Spit Fire” Ricky Dickens captured the pole and the checkered flag for his fourth victory of the season on the hi-banked clay oval of WCS. Selma's Dustin Mitchell was right on his bumper for a close second place win. Buddy Isles Jr of Littleton and Jerry McKeel Sr. was able to take home the third and fourth place wins.
Thanks to all who came and we miss all of you who didn't. Next week we'll see you at “The Greatest Show on Dirt” be a part of it ,after all it's all of YOU that make it “the Greatest”.
