I am so happy to see that this great track has re-opened. I have been living in Florida for 10 years now since joing the Air Force. I miss the days when I was a kid going to the racetrack. Seeing my favorite drivers Mel Joseph Jr. and Ricky Elliott win races. My father used to build race cars for Mel and Landy Adams in the 80s( the old # 49). May father used to race there also in the late 60s and early 70s. Didn't win anything, but I got to see him drive and enduro race in the 80s once. I remember the fueds between Oscar Fields and Mel. The fueds between Ricky and Bobby Wilkins. Kenny Pettyjohn was(and still is) one of my favorite Late model drivers. One of my neighbors growing up worked on his car. I plan on going there again when I come home for a visit. Thank you Lou Johnson for re-opening this place.( I remember you also in the old 96 winning races there as well). Good luck to all involved with this track. Hope to see it soon.
BTW, I have recently got to watch Kenny and Ricky drive down here at Volusia County speedway as well as Deron Rust and Jamie Mills. That was cool to see them down here.
