The Stars and Stripes waved proudly over the awesome 1/3 mile hi-banked clay oval called “Little Daytona” by many. As Americans celebrate the birthday of the greatest country in the world, drivers and fans celebrated the freedom to race and provide their own fireworks at the “Greatest Show on Dirt”. In honor of our Nations Birthday Wayne County Speedway will be closed July 7th but we will return on Friday night July 14th, for another fast and furious night of racing in all five divisions. “CATCH US IF YOU CAN”.
SUPER LATE MODELS

Capturing the poll was Benson's own Roger Lucas. Lucas put his machine in the wind at the drop of the green flag and took complete control of the lead . However on the very first lap of this 30 lap SLM feature race we had cars scattered all over the race track between turns three and four. It appears that everyone wanted the second place spot “AT THE SAME TIME”. As the cars pulled out of the pile up and made their way to the start finish line the lap counted because it was the first one. On the restart Lucas had been able to escape the pile up and once again put his powerplant out front in the number one “Hot Seat”. Many challenges were attempted but Lucas held on strong until the last few laps. Then it was Bailey's Greg Williams that put his 2004 J&M Chevrolet “Rocket” in the fast lane for the awesome final checkered flag finish. Williams landed his first race of the season at WCS. Sanford's Brett Dysart held on for a strong second place win. Franklinton's “Candy Man” Derick Francis finished third and rounding out the top five was Princeton's Junior Pearce and Sanford's Chuck Smith.
SPORTSMAN

It was Roanoke Rapid's Frank Munn that captured the poll and the pressure of the number one spot in the 20-lap Sportsman feature race. Munn had his hands full as several tried but couldn't get the break they needed to grab that lead Munn had control of. As the laps counted down in was in your face racing throughout the entire event. Positions were being swapped throughout the field, as the checkered flag fell it was Munn that landed his first victory of the season at WCS. Brad Theide was close behind for his second place win. Jamie Stevenson had a good third place victory. Charles Hanson of Sanford and Donnie Odom of Princeton finished fourth and fifth respectively.
THUNDER & LIGHTING

Littleton's Buddy Isles Sr. captured the poll and the lead at the drop of the green, but not for long. Youngsville's Luke Owens wanted a piece of the up front action as well. Owens and Rocky Mount's Alan Worrells were fighting hard for that out front spot. However Owens prevailed and seized the lead and held it strong until the final lap was complete. Youngsville's Luke Owens landed his first victory at WCS. Worrells settled for the second place win. Isles Sr. held on for third while Bailey's Jerry McKeel Jr. finished fourth and Princeton's Donnie Odom finished fifth.
ALL STAR V-8

Starting from the poll was Littleton's “Young Gun” Buddy Isles Jr. Isles drive like a seasoned pro for his age and makes it very difficult to capture him on any given race night. However Roanoke Rapids's “Spit Fire” Ricky Dickens put his “Dirt Wild” race car in the wind and was able to capture the number one hot seat for the remainder of the 15-lap Allstar V-8 feature race. Dickens landed his third victory of the 2006 season at WCS. Isles Jr. held on for a close second place win. Newcomer to the track Johnny Edmondson of Rocky Mount finished third. Rounding out the top five was Michael Wells and Matt Valiquette of Jacksonville.
SUPER STOCK 4-CYL

Youngsville's Chris Meyer captured the pole and the lead at the drop of the green of the 15-lap SS4 feature race. Once again a major pile up of cars into turn four on the first lap. As the cars pulled away from the wreckage we were able to put them back in order on the track and go back to green flag racing. Meyer held his spot out front until the checkered flag fell, landing his first flag to flag victory here at WCS. Newcomer Scott Baines made a very impressive second place win. Tee Kemp and Jason Horne of Middlesex finished third and fourth while Rocky Mount's Victor May was able to salvage the fifth place win.

Thanks to all who came , and please be safe for the holidays. Enjoy your “INDEPENDENCE” that so many have defended and died for and may “GOD's SPEED” protect OUR Great Nation in it's time of unrest. See you Friday Night July 14th for another “Greatest Show on Dirt”.

"Little Daytona"? I thought people called it "Little Bristol"!
