RURAL RETREAT, VA – Due to heavy rains on Saturday night, Wythe Raceway was forced to call the race giving the points leaders another week to hold onto their lead. In the Super Street division, Brian Coake out of Max Meadows has had a dominate year, finishing in the top five every week. Out of Coake’s eight starts, he has scored 5 feature wins placing him atop of the leader board and twenty two points ahead of Sugar Grove’s Keith Griffitts. Mike Keith of Abingdon sits in third a mere sixteen points behind Griffitts and only two points ahead of Jimmy Tate of Wytheville. Noah Martin of Sugar Grove is in fifth, twenty nine points behind Tate.


In the Super Late Model division, five different drivers have visited Victory Lane in the six races making the chase for the points a very tight battle. Jimmy McCormick out of Dobson, NC is leading the standings with a twenty one point lead over second place driver Lloyd Osborne of Johnson City, TN. Randy Taylor of Troutdale is in third just five points behind Osborne with Tony Parks of Stuart just one point behind him. Travis Greer of Marion rounds out the top five just eight points behind Parks. With just a thirty five point spread between the top five drivers, this is anyone’s lead to take.


In the Open Wheel Modified division, the top five drivers are continually swaping positions as they battle for the championship. Ron Lawson of Austinville is leading the pack followed by RK Dix of Rural Retreat. Dix sits just five points behind Lawson and only one point ahead of Ron Lyles of Chilhowie in third. R. Lyles has a four point lead over Daniel Lyles of Marion and Duke Bare of Meadowview rounds out the top five just two points behind D. Lyles. Only twelve points separate the leader Lawson from Bare in fifth. Chris Pendleton of Morristown, TN who has claimed five feature wins is currently in seventh forty eight points behind Lawson.


Jack Scott of Troutdale leads the Pro Late Model points standings by twelve points behind rookie Chase McCormick of Dobson, NC. Randy Taylor of Troutdale sits in third just eight points behind McCormick and five points ahead of Scott Agee of Christiansburg. Brandon Umberger of Rural Retreat fell to fifth last week after taking a week off, sill just two points behind Agee.


Randy Kincer of Rural Retreat in the Modified Mini division has a strong hold on the points after taking home four feature wins out of the seven total races. Kevin Atwell also of Rural Retreat is second to Kincer by twelve points followed by Luke Golding of Mount Airy, NC who trails Atwell by four points for third. Gary Rudolph of Fries is in the fourth position and Jimmy Buchanan of Wytheville sits in fifth overall, and leads the truck points over Chris Warren of Independence by fifty eight points.


In the Mini Stock division, Gator Cornett of Sugar Grove is in the lead over Andy Jolliffe of Chilhowie by seven points. Michael Carnett of Sugar Grove, who has had two wins in recent weeks has moved into third and forty points behind Jolliffe. John Carlin of Chilhowie is in forth and John Hayden of Crockett rounds out the top five.


Cody McMahan of Chilhowie leads the points in the Hornet division after taking home four feature wins. Taylor Hayes of Marion sits in second just seven points behind McMahan. Cody Dutton of Chilhowie is in third just two points behind Hayes and twelve points ahead of Pie Short of Abingdon. Cole Dutton of Chilhowie rounds out the top five three points behind Short and twenty four points behind McMahan.


This Friday night Bob Huff Chevrolet and Huff Ford will be presenting the Monster Truck show at Wythe Raceway. Gravedigger, Virginia Giant, Thrasher, Raminator, Samson and Raminator will be invading the track for a night of car crushing excitement. Saturday night will feature Wythe Raceway’s annual fireworks show as well as a special mid-season Super Late Model Championship race with $1500 going to the winner. All other divisions will be racing except the Pro Late Model division.
