TROUBLE

How the heck can you close a race track at the beginning of the season?
Drop all the silly rules and keep the basic rules.
Let them get as fast as they want to be and watch the pits and the stands fill up.
Aluminum bodies on Street Stocks, angle plug heads , any steel heads, any 750 carb, any intake, and clutch, 10 inch wheels and 11.00 series tires..
You will be the only track in the south with them rules and they will come out of the wood work to race there...
Steel Block Limited Late Models - 2400 lbs, no spoiler rules and no body rules.
Late Models on a limited basis - say maybe once a month. No engine rules, no spoiler rules.
No rules on Traction Control. That way instead of people wasting their money trying to hide it - they can spend it on hot dogs and soda.
1 front wheel drive 4 cylinder class - no rules
1 rear wheel drive 4 cylinder class - no rules.
No protests. Track reserves the right to tech anyone anytime they feel someone has a unfair advantage..
That's the way a track is supposted to be...
$10 a person at the gate and $20 a person to get into the pits...
Maybe even have a night where you would allow side boards on the Limited Late Models.. That always brings in a BIG crowd....
Maybe even a $50 tow payout for anyone that had some bad luck and tore their car all up. Most tracks forget about a guy that just lost everything he had in the world - due to a wreck... Mininum tow payout $20 - even if you only make one lap...

It sounds like you think it is an easy task and have the answer to make it work..........Im sure Eddie would be glad to lease it to you at a fair price. It is always easy to be an "ARMCHAIR" owner or promoter. I have been there and done that and its not very rewarding.

Compared to owning a racecar, it wouldn't be that bad.
Running a track - at least at the end of the night you wouldn't have lost everything you owned in the world and if you set it up right you would have a paycheck in your pocket.
Rules is what kills any sport.
The technology in North Carolina is there to have some good racing.
Sure there are people that sit in the same seat at the same track everyweek.
But you aren't after them people. The ones you want are sitting in the stands at the drag races in Mooresville on Thursday nights. When someone say's I think my car is better than yours and let's take it to the track and find out. The other person isn't going to say - I can't go there because my car does not conform to their rules.
Instead - they say I got the best car and they got the best rules and I don't mind hauling 50 miles to see who is the best. I know my car can whoop your car and I'm willing to show up and find out.
Do you think I got what it takes to be a promoter?

Sounds like the only you thing you need now is a race track.......And trust me you need a pocket full of money along with those "solutions" to making a race track work. Like I said give Eddie a call, put up some money and we all can go racing next week at Wayne County again.

Again, that is the job of the promoter. To guarentee the purse and to oversee the rules and regulations...
In return for that = he is entitled to anywhere between 10 and 25% of the take at the gate. That doesn't leave very much for the track - for it's operating expenses and personel...
What you need is a track manager. Someone to over see the day to day operations. Make sure that the bill's get's paid first. The racers get's paid second and the personel gets paid last.
A lease option on a track is never a good thing. The owner of the track sits back and watches as the new management fixes everything that they neglected over the years. That man spends all his money fixing up the place and the return of his investment takes 10 to 20 years. The whole time the owner gets a check everyweek - if you race or not.
I saw 3 very good tracks that were ran into the ground - 2 of them were done by a man named Andy Padden. They were into Sprint Cars and thought that they knew how to run a race track. Instead of re investing the money they made. They took what they got and ran. Both of the tracks they managed were in recievership last year.
You never pay rent for something that you can build for 50 % less over a 20 year term!

I just think that the track needs to be leased from someone who will invest time and money to make it. I also think that someone with a personality will make it beter because it you tell the driver if you don't like it here than go else where they are taking more thanjust their car, their fans and other drivers.
Not trying to start anythign because I know for a fact that WCS has had some of the best racing I have seen in a very long time. I was there when it was asphalt and clay and loved it.
I just want to see some racing there whether it be on clay or asphalt just miss the track.

I think they need to go back to asphalt just due to they can work toghether with Southern Nationa and work out rules to have 2 night of racing, So when the classes that are not running saturday will have a track to run on friday. I will support it.

DIRTS for RACING!!!! You know if it goes back asphalt you will NEVER see me there again. Plus didn't they go from asphalt back to dirt because the car count was low then too?

From FIRST HAND experience, it is cheaper to own the race car and race than own the track and do the promoting.........this I can say for sure, JC raced and granted, we didn't make any money, but now that we own the place, we make even less and have alot more headaches.........Give Eddie a break, you may be suprised at what happens in the future.
