(MOORESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA) The Premier Motorsports team, with young
Mooresville, North Carolina native G.R. Smith behind the wheel of their Dirt
Wheels Speed Shop / Giacobbe Trucking / Baker Carburetion #22 Rocket / Pro
Power machine, finished thirteenth on Saturday night, June 3 in their first
ever visit to the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia. After coming
through his B-Main to advance to the $4,000 to win Carolina Clash Late Model
Series feature event, G.R. improved his starting spot by eight positions en
route to the thirteenth place performance. He is now tenth in the latest
version of the Carolina Clash Series point standings, but is still leading the
Rookie of the Year chase!
“It was definitely an up-and-down night for us at Wythe,” stated G.R. earlier
in the week via telephone. “We were loose in hot laps, so we tightened the car
up for qualifying and we tightened it up way too much. The car got pretty good
in the B-Main and I drove up to third to transfer to the feature race. Then in
the feature, we were passing some cars before getting spun out. So in reality,
I had to come from the tail twice and wound up thirteenth. I think we may have
had a seventh place car or so, but things unfortunately didn’t pan out that
way.”
G.R. Smith and the Premier Motorsports team will stay in the Carolina’s this
coming weekend instead of traveling to the Eldora (OH) Speedway, as previously
planned. The Dublin Motor Speedway in Dublin, North Carolina will be the track
of choice on Friday, June 9. An unsanctioned, $4,000 to win event is on tap at
the Tarheel State oval this Friday evening. A trip to the I-20 Speedway in
Batesburg, South Carolina on Saturday will greet the #22 team. The $5,000 to
win show was scheduled for May 20, but was postponed until June 10 due to
inclement weather.
G.R. Smith and the Premier Motorsports team would like to thank the following
sponsors for their support this season: Dirt Wheels Speed Shop, MCB
Motorsports, Giacobbe Trucking, Baker Carburetion, Behrent’s Performance
Warehouse, Delph Communications, DH Competition Decals by HIP, Duralite Wheels,
Pro Power Racing Engines, and Rocket Chassis.
