The stars came out to shine at the FASTRAK Pro Series Crate Late Model Tour race at Lowes Motor Speedway's (http://www.racefan.com/Results.asp?TrackID=2187&StoryID=186345#) The Dirt Track!

36 GM Performance powered Crate Engine Late Model cars took to the track for fast action around the 4/10 mile dirt oval located just outside of the Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. Four heat races would make up the top twenty with Rob McLaughlin, Timbo Mangum, Dennis "Rambo" Franklin and Buddy Smith taking victories in their respective heats and Matthew Daniels and Chris Carlson took the top spot in their last chance race.

When the FASTRAK cars took to the track for the feature race the field was 25 cars and the action would begin to happen quickly. On the first lap of the 25-lap feature Kenny Peeples, Shane Hmiel and Timbo Mangum were taken out of the race after Franklin made it three wide for the lead in turns one and two and Mangum got pushed up high and spun his racer right into the path of Hmiel and Peeples. After cleanup on the track for the three damaged machines, they got the cars back together for a complete restart and Franklin again made his way to the inside of McLaughlin and Smith for the lead in turns one and two.

Franklin completed the pass on McLaughlin, but then had to withstand challenges from Smith who raced him side by side for several laps before Franklin moved on by Smith after a couple laps to claim sole possesion of the race lead during a long stretch of green flag racing (http://www.racefan.com/Results.asp?TrackID=2187&StoryID=186345#) which lasted until lap 21 when Justin Simms spun in turn four. During the long green flag stretch of racing Chris Carlson from Greenfield, Wisconsin had mechanical troubles and retired from the race relegating him to a 22nd place finish.

The caution again waved before the field could complete another lap when the car of Bubba Russell crashed in turn four. The race was then restarted and Franklin completed the task at hand as he drove his Fireworks Factory Outlet sponsored car to victory lane (http://www.racefan.com/Results.asp?TrackID=2187&StoryID=186345#) at "The Dirt Track" at Lowes Motor Speedway. Smith chased Franklin to the finish line followed by Jonathan Davenport, Mike "The Finstone Flyer" Duvall and John Pursley.

Marty Reid of Lake Wiley, SC was able to sustain a sixth place finish and take the FASTRAK Southern Region points lead. Coming into the event Reid and Anthony Meadows were tied for the points lead, but Meadows struggled through the entire night of racing action and settled for a 20th place finish in the feature.

Rounding out the top ten from the feature was; Matthew Daniels who was the 2005 FASTRAK National Rookie of the Year, Lee Cooper, Bradley Partin and Chris Ferguson. Johnny Thomas, Chris Steele, Rob McLaughlin, Glen Herrington, Justin Simms, Andy Blackwood, Jim Bob Davis, Brad Hall, Bubba Russell, Anthony Meadows, Scott Morgan, Chris Carlson, Timbo Mangum, Kenny Peeples and Shane Hmiel rounded out the complete 25 car starting field.

The FASTRAK Pro Series Crate Late Model Tour has a big Memorial Day weekend coming up with a $30,000 weekend in the MidWest Region with the Triple Crown Missouri State Championship and a $20,000 double header weekend in Alabama for the Southern Region. I have to agree with the oxmeister!!! Rambo is one bad dude in that crate car. I love to watch him race because he can drive beyond any means of a race car, simply stated he's crazy and can drive.
