(MOORESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA) G.R. Smith and the Premier Motorsports team
invaded the Peachtree State of Georgia last Friday night, May 19 for a special
$4,000 to win show at the Gordon Park Speedway in Grovetown, Georgia. The
young Mooresville, North Carolina driver piloted his #22 entry to a solid
second place finish behind winner Kelly Guy in the unsanctioned event. G.R.
then traveled to the I-20 Speedway in Batesburg, South Carolina on Saturday in
hopes of capturing the $5,000 payday. However, Mother Nature had other ideas
and postponed the event until Saturday, June 10. G.R. is in line for a
possible $1,000 bonus at the June 10 event, as the driver with the highest
combined finishes in the Gordon Park / I-20 shows will earn the sought-after
bonus.
“We had a good car the other night at Gordon Park, but just couldn’t find a way
around Kelly (Guy),” commented the young Mooresville, North Carolina
driver. “I got up to his rear quarter panel on several occasions, but wanted
to pass him cleanly. There is no doubt that I could have roughed him up and
probably gotten the win, but that is not my style. I was really looking
forward to Saturday at I-20 and that possible bonus. Unfortunately, the rains
came and wiped out the race. The track looked to be in good shape before the
rain, so I think it would have been a great show.”
The Premier Motorsports team will travel to Brinkleyville, North Carolina over
the Memorial Day holiday weekend to compete in a pair of Carolina Clash Late
Model Series shows at the Clary’s Speedway. The weekend will kick off this
Friday, May 26 with a $5,000 to win show at the Tarheel State bullring. A
similar show will take place at Clary’s on Saturday with another $5,000 top
prize going to the winner. G.R. currently finds himself ninth in the latest
version of the Carolina Clash standings and is leading the Rookie of the Year
battle! For more information on these two exciting dirt-slinging shows, point
