BRASSTOWN, N.C. -- With a little less than two months remaining until the second annual running of the popular Southern Nationals Series, promoter Ray Cook has announced the rear tire rule for the series.

Competitors that run with the series in 2006, which competes in ten events in a mere thirteen days, will have their choice of several compounds of both Hoosier Racing Tires (http://www.racefan.com/sresults.asp?SanctionID=1092&StoryID=185337#) and American Racing (http://www.racefan.com/sresults.asp?SanctionID=1092&StoryID=185337#) Tires. For drivers choosing to roll out with Hoosier tires, they will have the following compounds to choose from: 1350, shoulder plated 55, LM 40, and 1600. For those on American Racers, those drivers will be able to choose either 48 or 56 compounds.

The above choices of compounds are the only options for the Southern Nationals Series competitors for rear tires. There will be an open tire rule for both tire manufacturers on the front. The minimum hardness guidelines for the rear tires will be announced at the first driver's meeting on Monday, July 10 at the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia.

"I have spent the last several days durometering all of the different tire makes and the tire rule that we have chosen seems to make the most sense," stated promoter and Dirt Late Model standout Ray Cook via telephone today. "If we have a forty car field, we will be able to check the eighty rear tires much easier and more effectively than checking all one hundred and sixty tires. That is the reasoning behind having an open front tire rule. By enforcing the tire rule which we came up with today, it still gives the racers a couple of different options on the rear of the car, but keeps the number of tires needed to a minimum. I think that the tire rule is very even to both Hoosier and American Racer and I think the fans are going to see some great racing action during that two week stretch in July!"

The second year series will drop the green flag for the first time on July 10 at the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia. The series, which was won in its inaugural year by Jeff Cooke, will culminate at the ultra-quick Tazewell Speedway (http://www.racefan.com/sresults.asp?SanctionID=1092&StoryID=185337#) in Tazewell, Tennessee on July 22. In all, the Southern Nationals Series will feature ten events in only thirteen days. The entire schedule lines up as follows:
