Hey Super Late Model Fans at Wythe, I have a wild question for you.
Do you think the Super Late Model purse is too small to draw Cars?
and if so how much more is needed to bring more?

Do you think that 600 fans out of the entire crowd that pays $7.00 a week would be willing to pay $10.00 a week and if so, that would be an extra $1800.00 dollars that could be contributed to the Super Late Model Purse. How would it get there you ask? Pay your $7.00 to get in and then sign up and pay your other $3.00 at a second ticket stand just inside the fence. Of course this would have to be controlled and monitored but just think, or look at the following rundown....

fans extra cash extra purse
50 x $3.00 $150.00
75 x $3.00 $225.00
100 x $3.00 $300.00
150 x $3.00 $450.00
175 x $3.00 $525.00
200 x $3.00 $600.00
225 x $3.00 $675.00
250 x $3.00 $750.00
300 x $3.00 $900.00
400 x $3.00 $1200.00
500 x $3.00 $1500.00
600 x $3.00 $1800.00

Now where do you put it?
Lets use 300 fans x $3.00 = $900.00
and use 500 fans x $3.00 = $1500.00

current +$900.00 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx+$1500.00

Super

Late
Purse

1 $1000 +$500 = $1500 xxxxxxxxxx+$500 = $1500
2 $700 +$100 = $800xxxxxxxxxxxxx +$200 = $900
3 $400 +$100 = $500xxxxxxxxxxxxx +$100 = $500
4 $350 +$50 = $400xxxxxxxxxxxxxx +$100 = $450
5 $300 +$50 = $350xxxxxxxxxxxxxx +$100 = $400
6 $250 +$50 = $300xxxxxxxxxxxxxx +$100 = $350
7 $200 +$50 = $250 xxxxxxxxxxxxxx+$100 = $300
8 $150xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx +$100 = $250
9 $125xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx +$50 = $175
10 $100xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx +$50 = $150
11 $100xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx +$50 = $150
12 $100xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx +$50 = $150
13 $100
14 $100
15 $100

Are you willing to pay the extra $3.00 to have the extra purse to supposedly see more cars every week?

Now that is a good question but I don't think there is an easy answer.

It would be very hard to tell the fans to pay extra for more SLM cars because the track cannot guarantee more cars. However, local sponsors can attract cars by placing an incentive in their deal based on when your car races at Wythe. Then again, you never really know how many will show up until it's time to race.

Raising the admission to $10.00 or increasing the purse as an effort to draw more SLM's is a good idea. Although, it will still take some time before this pays off with an increased car count. The season has started and most race teams have made their plans for the next month or so.

Let's look at the issue this way:
Given the current status of SLM racing at Wythe 10 - 15 SLM's will be the car count. Once in a while you may see 16+ and every now and then you may have only 8 SLM's. Here is my reasoning behind the numbers.

1. There is a core group of late models (8-10) which will run at Wythe regardless of the purse.
2. There are a few good SLM teams (4 or 5) which are not following a series, love to race and are only 1 1/2 hrs away so it makes sense to go to Wythe when there isn't a better race closer to home.
3. The odds of consistently pulling more cars from WV or TN are stacked against you. If you have ever been to Bills Gap you know what I mean.
4. Your best shot at bringing in new SLM's for a Saturday race is from NC or VA. I only say VA because I know of 2 cars very close that are not there now.
There isn't a weekly SLM track in central or western NC. But there are two good regional series (SAS-East & Carolina Clash) racing in and around NC/SC. This is one area where the purse is hurting the car count. Why would someone from Greensboro, Charlotte, or Morganton pull their trailer 2 - 3 hours when they know if they have a flat tire the purse can't pay their fuel bill.

My suggestion for this year: is to look at the SAS East and/or Carolina Clash schedules pick an off night to put on a special SLM race. Raise the admission to $10.00 and double the purse. You will get a few more cars maybe even have 20-24. Everyone loves racing at Wythe it just has to make sense. May 20th may be a good night but it's kind of late to get the word out.

Next year: raise the purse and give the Hoosier guys a decent tire to run. Spec 55 does not have a chance.

Good luck and I hope the SLM class is a success.

Do a trial run. On May 20th, raise the gate to $10, double the purse all the way through, and call every Super late model driver within an 1 1/2 hours and invite them to come. Maybe even for one night only, have an open tire rule. Tell the fans this week what is coming and the ticket increase, and see what happens. You might be surprised buy the turnout both cars and fans. (Although Fred is attracting a pretty good crowd already.) All I can tell you is 311 had a $5k to win race earlier this year on the same night Clary's was paying $10k and drew more cars, and from what I heard A LOT more fans.

Just how many more cars do you think would be a success? I personally feel that 16-19 would be semi successfull, 20-23 moderately successful and 24 or more would be extremely successfull.

JUNE 10th is an off week for the Clash and the Clash runs Wythe Raceway on June 3rd, So One week after the fans and drivers get a taste of it run a decent purse. run clash rules with the exception of a (semi) open tire rule (don't want to get too crazy with the rubber). Start advertising now and there is plenty of time!!!!

June 10th is already on the Wythe Schedule as a double points night of course that is the weekend of the dream and Clarys is running $6500.00 to win so who knows how well that would work

somebody stir the pot a little and get fans on this board!!!!

It is always great to talk about more cars in a class. Higher car counts are great as long as the field doesn't get too big that it takes away from good racing action. Never want to see a bunch of wrecks with people tearing up their cars every week. I haven't been to Wythe, so I am not sure of the amount of cars on the track at one time is the best, but from looking at some of the other classes, it looks like a lot of cars in some classes.

Some people say go ahead and drop the weight limit to 2300, some people say open tires, some people say make winning worth $1200.00. I don't know if anybody really knows the complete answer. We all know that weight is not hard to meet by adding lead. The tires are really less expensive in the long run to go by the rules. Is $200 dollars more really going to draw more drivers or would more money on the backside, for example 10th thru 20th, be more attention getting. I do not know what the points fund is at Wythe Currently but, a points fund may be more valuable than race day purses. I think that most tracks have loyal drivers due to points purses more so than weekly purses. I said it last year and I'll say it again, I will be happy to go to the bank for a portion of a big race if several other companies in our area will go in with me. I can name a few that come to mind right off the top of my head. shall we say, Huff Ford and Chevrolet, Independence Lumber, Musser Lumber, Advance Auto, Autozone, Napa, etc.,

:donate_NBS: Even that put to the side, How many locals want to come up with $50.00 to $100.00 to put together to create a purse for a special race? I'll put up $500.00 so if 20 others put up $100.00 that would be $2000.00, get Fred to jump in with his part of the $10.00 addmission price, $3.00 per person over the standard $7.00. approx. (2000 fans x 3.00) = $6000.00, so the total is:

$500.00 + $2000.00 + $6000.00= $8500.00

the current purse for positions 1-30 total = $5575.00

so take the original $5575.00 + $8500.00 extra =

$14,075.00 total purse... these numbers are super conservative and do not include entry fees or any other business contributions

leaving a purse break down like this

1 $2,500.00
2 $2,000.00
3 $1,500.00
4 $1,000.00
5 $800.00
6 $700.00
7 $600.00
8 $500.00
9 $450.00
10 $400.00
11 $350.00
12 $300.00
13 $250.00
14 $200.00
15 $200.00
16 $200.00
17 $200.00
18 $200.00
19 $200.00
20 $200.00
21 $150.00
22 $150.00
23 $150.00
24 $150.00
25 $150.00
26 $125.00
27 $125.00
28 $125.00
29 $100.00
30 $100.00

= $14,075.00

now that being said, who's coming and do you have a tire rule similar to Ray Cook where you durometer the rear tires only and hold them to specific hardness and leave the front tire an open rule???

Do you have heat races of Clash qualifying and consi races to make up the back end, do you start 30 cars or cut that down and start 24, I don't have the answers or the complete money for the purse but the facts are on a normal week Fred would pay out $5575.00 in purse if 30 Late models showed up, his addmission price is normally $7.00 so if a special would be $10.00 that would leave the $3.00 per person extra for more for purse......

:smiley_691: What are the odds of 30 cars showing up for a 2500 dollars to win show????? Would the pay on back bring anybody?

I DON'T KNOW, does anybody???
:thanx:

Well it is not a ? of how many cars with the purse right now it is what do i have to sell to keep racing a super at wythe. do not worry about more cars we need to take care of the guys running up there now. Also where is he going to get the cars on a every night basis. He is not going to get them out of Tenn. Most guys with big moters in nc will run with the clash or at a closer track. but i do think he could get some from wv. I no beckley runs on a fri. and some of those cars might what to come down every now and then but still we have to think more about the people who are already running up their. if we are going to raise the purse it should be for them.

That purse idea was just for a single race, unsanctioned, one night only, not intended for the entire year but the same idea works for raising the weekly purse only raise the addmission to $8.00 instead of $7.00 and 1000 tickets sold raises the purse by $1000.00.....................

311 tried increasing the lates to 2500 to win last year and guess how many more cars came?
NONE.
I think that with high fuel costs unless you have 5000 or 10000 to win shows you probably aren't going to attract too many more. Where do you think the extra cars will come from? I think the problem is too many racetracks running Saturday Nights and there are only so many cars. I don't like Wythe personally but I do commend them for bringing back the SLM's. If you are getting 10 or more on a steady basis that's a pretty good deal for 7 bucks.

But, what happens when a lot of the fans who are regulars, don't want to pay an increase of $3.00 each week and find other things to do on a Saturday night? Then where will the money for the purse come from when the fan attendance is down? I know some will always be there no matter what, but a lot go just because they like racing and it's not like Bristol where tickets are almost unatainable and priced for the rich man only.
