BARDSTOWN, Ky. (May 8) - Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY will be off again this week, but the rumble of engines and the smell of race fuel returns to the ½ mile high-banked Bluegrass Speedway located just outside of historic Bardstown, KY on Saturday night, May 20, with the 3rd Annual Jerry Rucker Memorial.
Bluegrass Speedway will be closed this Saturday night, May 13, as track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will be in Bowling Green, KY to attend the college graduation of their youngest daughter, Amanda, from Western Kentucky University. Racing action will return to Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday night, May 20, with the running of the 3rd Annual Jerry Rucker Memorial, paying $2,000 to win for Late Models, along with a regular show for Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks. This event is held in memory of the late Jerry Rucker, who was a resident of Hodgenville, KY and long time racer in the Central Kentucky area. Rucker was tragically killed in a trucking accident in 2003. For this event, the Late Models and Street Stocks will take time trials, while the Modified and Sportsman divisions will pill draw for heat race starting assignments. Previous winners of the Jerry Rucker Memorial include Tim Tungate and Brad Neat.
The 9th Annual Spring Sizzler that was postponed on April 29 will now take place on Tuesday evening, May 30, as part of the inaugural Kentucky Speedweeks that will be sanctioned by the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series. Spectators with general admission tickets and those with pit passes can use those rain checks on the rescheduled date. Those rain checks can also be used for the 3rd Annual Jerry Rucker Memorial on May 20 and for the 6th Annual Mod Squad Bash for the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series on May 27. The rain check is good for only one of any of the above mentioned events.
Normal starting times return with the May 20 racing program. Activities for the May 20 racing program will see pit gates open at 4:00 p.m., with main gates opening at 5:00 p.m. The driver's meeting will go at 6:00 p.m., with hot laps set to begin around 6:30 p.m. Time trials will go around 7:00 p.m., with racing action set to take the green flag at or before 8:00 p.m.
Bluegrass Speedway is also an associate of the Contingency Connection program again in 2006, allowing drivers to sign up for free to be included in the prestigious program that holds products manufacturer certificates that total in excess of $50,000 for the season.
Bluegrass Speedway last raced on April 22 and feature winners that evening included Whitney McQueary of Dunnville, KY in Late Models, Freddy Garmon of Knob Lick, KY in Modifieds, Kevin Wilson of Versailles, KY in Sportsman, and Timmy Glazer of Bardstown, KY in Street Stocks.
