Other winners included Jason Horne in Super Stock Four Cylinder, Johnnie Edmondson in Super Stock V-8, Brian Andrews in Pure Stock Four Cylinder, and David Myers in Pure Stock V-8.
Middlesex’s Jason Horne led flag to flag in the highly competitive Super Stock Four Cylinder division. Horne in his #8 Mustang led a strong field of competitors to the final stripe beating the #71 Mustang driven by Kenly’s Brandon Wells, who had to settle for second. Pine Level’s Ronnie Johnson was able to advance from his ninth starting position to capture the third position in the final rundown. Elm City’s Glenn Bottoms and Michael Webb had a hard fought battle for the fourth position, with Bottoms taking the spot followed by Webb. Rounding out the top ten were Wayne Potter, Skeeter Liles, Robert Clay, Brandon Whitley, and Marlene Somers. Horne and Wells were the heat race winners.
In the Super Stock V-8 division Rocky Mount’s Johnnie Edmondson was able to finish what he started last weekend. Edmondson led flag to flag in his #59 Pontiac followed by the #11 Camaro driven by Nashville’s J.J. Pendergrass. Pendergrass had to hold of all challenges for second by Rocky Mount’s Bobby Bottoms. Rounding out the top five were Wade Ferrell and last weeks winner Jerry McKeel Sr. Edmondson and Glenn Baker were the heat race winners. Baker was involved in a first lap accident.
Elm City’s Brian Andrews was able to capture his first career victory in a wild finish for the Pure Stock Four Cylinder division, which put on a very exciting race from green to checkered. Andrews #05 Mustang was able to find a hole to sneak through in turn four on the final lap to capture the victory. Andrews was followed to the finish by Bunn’s Geroge Ballance Jr in the #50 Mustang. Rocky Mount’s Lynn Harvey followed Andrews and Ballance through the opening to take third place in his season debut. Carlton Toney and previous leader Joey Morgan were able to get straightened out to cross the stripe in fourth and fifth respectively. Rounding out the top ten were Gary Dillon, Nicki Etheridge, Howard Dean, Shelley Ward, and Junior Johnson. Heat race winners were Toney and Etheridge.
Britches Liles was the only repeat winner in the Thunder & Lightning division. Jerry McKeel Jr brought out the red flag after getting caught on top of the wallexciting turn two on the opening lap. McKeel was able to continue after some brief attention by his crew. Bailey’s Liles in his #L2 Camaro captured the lead from his outside pole position and never looked back. Johnnie Edmondson driving the #53 Monte Carlo was able to avoid some last lap contact by Chris Ray and Grag Williams to capture the runner up spot . Zebulon’s Ray was able to cross in third, followed by Williams. McKeel completed the top five finishers after his early race excitement. Billy Poythress won the heat race, but had engine problems during the feature.
The final event of the evening was the Pure Stock V-8, which proved to be just as entertaining. Bailey’s David Myers brought his #9 Olds Cutlass to final checkers of the evening. Myers was the third different leader of the evening, taking the reigns on lap 11 of 15 lap event. Pole Sitter Gary Whitley of Stantonsburg was able to come from a couple of early race incidents to finish second.
