The History books were updated this Friday night at Wayne County Speedway. There was a tie in the Super Late Model qualifying Pole position for a record breaking 13.41 seconds between “The Man Ray Tucker from Greensboro and Newcomer to Wayne County but is well known on the Dirt Track circuit, Rick Whaley out of Millsboro , Delaware. The race was totally awesome, fans if you missed this one you missed a race of a lifetime. It was in your face, only two wheels on the track at a time, powerslides from all four turns racing at its best. The fans were totally amazed at these guys as they tamed the 1/3 mile hi-banked oval of Wayne County Speedway. It just doesn't get any better than this folks. “Catch us if you Can” !!!!
SUPER LATE MODELS
Capturing the pole position was Greensboro's pride “The Man” Ray Tucker , but it was a tie with Delaware's Rick Whaley for the spot. However the driver that lands the best qualifying time first gets inside and the other one gets outside, and that's the way this race began with a fast and furious rumble of Thunder in the air. The green flag fell and the earth was shaking under our feet but the powerplants took complete control of the cool spring night with some of the HOTTEST racing action ever seen on the east coat. Tucker and Whaley took off like rockets but it only took about 10 seconds for McCool , Mississippi's Anthony Rushing to say move over the new kid's in town. Rushing and Whaley may have been new to this track but the track came home to these guys like they had driven it all their lives. Tucker was only able to keep the pace up front for a few laps and he suffered handling problems that resulted in him having to pit for the night. On the restart it was on between Whaley and Rushing to battle it out for the number one hot spot, but Benson's Roger Lucas gave them something to think about as he challenged their every move for the final lap. The racing action was still going on in the back as Wayne Tart , Neal Sykes, Chuck Smith and Mike Mason swapped position like it was easy money. This was one awesome action packed race from start to finish. It was Rushing and Whaley that kept only two tires on the track at times as they put those machines in the wind. Honestly folks it was even hard to find time to breath during this race it was so action packed. As the checkered flag fell it was Delaware's Anthony Rushing that captured his first ever win at Wayne County Speedway. Mississippi's Rick Whaley held on for a close second place win. Roger Lucas finished with a great third place win. Rounding out the top awesome five was Wayne Tart fourth and Neal Sykes of Apex fifth. We will definitely see these guys back in Wayne County again because both of the out of state drivers loved the track. Rushing and Whaley both said they always wanted to see what everyone was talking about here at Wayne County and these guys found out it's truly a driver's track and we are raced by some of the best on a weekly basis and we truly Thank all of you that make WCS the “ GREATEST SHOW ON DIRT”. Next week the SUPER 7 LATE MODELS Dirt Series starts up for the 2006 racing season $3000 to win. Also points start for all divisions.
SPORTSMAN
Starting from the pole was Princeton's Donnie Odom. Odom took complete control of the lead at the drop of the green but only for a few laps, he lost his pace and it was ON for the up front seat. Bailey's Tator Liles set his sights on the finish line but was constantly challenged by several equal contenders in the field . Newcomer Ryan Foran of Grassy Creek , NC showed WCS fans he could take the challenge and get up front close where it counts. Virginia's Roger Bell, last weeks winner was moving on up but had to settle down a little further back in the pack due to some handling issues. As the green flag fell it was Tator Liles that captured the checkered flag his first for the season at WCS. Fornan held on for a strong second place win. “Big”Mark McDaniels out of Selma finished third. Henderson's Charles Hanson and Virginia's Roger Bell finished fourth and fifth respectively.
THUNDER AND LIGHTING
It was newcomer to WCS Luke Owens that captured the pole position and the victory for a flag to flag win ,his first ever here on the 1/3 mile hi-banked oval. The victory was sweet but it was not an easy one as last week's winner and seasoned driver Buddy Isles Sr. of Littleton gave him a run for the money. As the final lap passed Owens landed the victory with Isles settling for the second place win. Jerry McKeel Jr. finished third while Lynn Combs of LaGrange finished fourth.
SUPER STOCK 4_Cylinders
Capturing the pole of the 15-lap Super Stock 4-cyl feature event was “ Big Daddy” Lynn Wells of Kenly. Wells took off from the green like a man on a mission but was in the hot seat for some challenges. Spring Hope's Jim O'Neal wanted some of the up front action and had to be separated to think about what might happen if the challenges became contact. Nevertheless the heat was on at the restart the “Young Gun” Brandon Wells also of Kenly got his machine in the wind and captured that number one hot seat for the lead. William Vaughn of Skippers, Virginia was on his back door but never could get around Wells to take the lead. As the checkered flag unfurled it was Brandon Wells in VICTORY lane for his first ever win here at WCS. Last week's winner William Vaughn came in with a close second place win. Lynn Wells and Jim O'Neal settled for the third and fourth place wins, while Henderson's Brian Medlin took home the fifth place win with his “Steve's Corvette Shops” Mustang.
ALL STAR V-8's
It was Littleton's new found pride Buddy Isles Jr. that captured the pole and the lead at the drop of the green in the All Star V-8 feature race. However as the laps began so did some awesome maneuvers to do some lead changes. Sanford's Benton Smith put his ride out front for the lead but had to still give it up to the Isles machine once again as the laps counted down. Isles Jr. did it again, he landed his second victory of the season at WCS. Selma's Dustin Mitchell is so close to that winner's circle each week but settled for the second place win. Jerry McKeel Sr. of Middlesex finished third. Rounding out the top five was Matt Valquette of Jacksonville fourth and Benton Smith fifth.
NEXT WEEK, SUPER 7 LATE MODELS $3000 TO WIN, POINTS START!! Don't miss it!!!
