Well it’s finally here the opening night of the WCS Dirt Track Racing Season. What a night it was. The cars and drivers were on time and ready to rumble. The 2006 season is hosting five nightly classes including , Super Stock 4-Cylinders, AllStar V8, Thunder & Lighting, Sportsman and the AWESOME Super Late Models. As the season progresses we will be hosting the Super 7 Series once again beginning Friday Night May 5th with $3000 to win. “CATCH US IF YOU CAN”.
Super Late Model
These guys really earn their name they are definitely SUPER win it comes to racing action. The feel of THUNDER in the ground gets everyone’s adrenaline flowing as the green flag falls for the 30-lap SLM feature race. Roger Lucas of Benson captured the poll position and $100 EXTRA BUCKS as he started the mighty men and machines out for the first Super Late Model race of the 2006 season. Lucas planned to take home the big check but other back in the pack were thinking the same thing. It was once again a TNT DYNOMITE race between Greensboro’s Ray Tucker and Autryville’s Jeffery Tyndall. These guys were putting some awesome moves on each other and Lucas as they both were able to move it on up front. Then is was on for the rest of the race. As the checkered flag fell it was none other than “THE MAN” Ray Tucker that captured his first victory of the SLM 2006 racing season at WCS. Tyndall came across just inched behind for a second place win. Lucas settled for third and Greensboro’s Steve Blackburn finished fourth. Neil Sykes of Apex finished fifth.
Sportsman
Bailey’s own Tator Lilies captured the pole position of the 20-lap Sportsman feature race. Liles took the lead as the green flag fell and held for several laps. However Virginia’s Roger Bell “ Mr. Excitement” carried out his name he went high and shot down to the bottom and took the lead with only a few laps left to come. At the drop of the checkered flag Bell claimed his first victory of the season at Wayne County Speedway. Liles gave him some back door pressure for the spot but had to settle for the second place win. “Big” Mark McDaniels of Selma finished third while Lynn Combs of Lagrange and Charlie Hanson of Henderson rounded out the top five wins.
Thunder & Lighting
This 20-lap T&L feature race was started and finished by the Sr. member of the ISLES Crew. Buddy Isles Sr. started from the pole and never looked back as he landed his first season victory at WCS for the 2006 racing season. Jerry McKeel Jr. of Middlesex gave him a run for the money but settled for a second place win. Bailey’s Britches Liles claimed the third place spot while newcomer Lee Hicks of Knightdale finished fourth.
All Star V8
Capturing the Poll position and the Checkered Flag was the young Gun of the Dynamic Duo called the ISLES Crew. Buddy Isles Jr. set his sight on the finish line as he took the green flag of the 15-lap AllStar V8 feature race. Winning his first race of the season with a flag to flag victory . Trust me it was no easy victory we had several equal contenders in ability and youthfulness as second year driver Dustin Mitchell never let Isles out of his reach and took home the second place win. Seasoned driver from Middlesex Jerry McKeel Sr. held on close by for his third place win. Newcomers Matt Valiquette of Jacksonville and David McKenzie of Elm City finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Super Stock 4-Cylinder
Starting from the poll position was Kenly’s own Brandon Wells. These guys were very serious about position because they changed positions as frequently as the wind changed direction. However after several battles for the lead it was William Vaughan from Skippers, Virginia that held his grove for the final checkered flag lap, winning his first ever race at Wayne County Speedway. Vaughn put his “Precision Engineering” Ford Pinto in the Winner's Circle for the first race of the 2006 season. Spring Hope’s seasoned driver Jim O’Neil held on strong for the second place win. Ricky Johnson finished third while Wilson’s Gary Dillon finished fourth. Brandon Wells rounded out the top five finishes for the 15-lap SS4 feature race.
Thanks to all who came and we’ll see you next week same time same place for “The Greatest Show On DIRT” .
