Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (April 17, 2006) – A full season of racing action for the Heintz Performance American Sprint Car Series Southern Tour kicks off this weekend with events atop a pair of lightning fast North Carolina clay ovals.
The ASCS Southern Tour kicks off a full slate of 16 events throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and eastern Tennessee with Friday night’s card atop the 4/10-mile, semi-banked Carolina Speedway dirt oval in Gastonia, NC.
Then on Saturday night, the stars of the ASCS Southern Tour move on to the ½-mile, high-banked New 311 Speedway clay oval in Madison, NC.
The battle for ASCS Southern Tour bragging rights will be wide open in 2006, as 2005 series champion Scott Young of Mooresville, NC, has moved to the stock car ranks as a part of DEI, Inc.
Filling the seat of the 2005 championship entry will be Scott Young’s older brother, Jeff Young. Jeff Young joins a team that includes title hopefuls Coby Adams (2005 runner-up) and Kris Brooks.
Other potential top contenders for the 2005 Heintz Performance ASCS Southern Tour championship include Doug Gold, Butch Pendergrass, Bill Moore, Danny Mercy, Tim Perry, Delaware’s Brooke Bowman and Virginia’s Mary Anne Williams.
Friday night’s racing action at Carolina Speedway gets under way at 8:00 p.m., with Saturday’s action at New 311 Speedway firing off at 7:00 p.m.

After establishing a solid foundation in 2005, the Heintz Performance ASCS Southern Tour currently consists of 16 nights of racing at thirteen different tracks throughout the southeastern portion of the United States.
In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
