Southside Speedway in Richmond, VA opens for the season this Friday April 7. The four division show features the Late Model Sportsmen (ie. limited late models), Grand Stocks, Street Stocks, and the return of the MACKA Champ Karts.

The MACKA (Mid-Atlantic Champ Kart Association) racing series features winged champ karts that can travel up to speeds of 70 mph. They race in big Daytona-style drafts and you never know who's going to win until the checkered flag falls. In the race I won there a couple of years ago, the top 4 were separated by a total of 8 feet. After 12 straight years of racing at Southside Speedway, the series was forced to take a two year absence but is now back.

On a personal note, I just made a deal tonight to get my kart out there this Friday. Since I can no longer race, I will be taking on the role of owner. My driver is a rookie but has alot of enthusiasm. So come on out and cheer on the #71! I don't expect to see him run up front the first few races, but I am happy to be part of the series and racing at Southside Speedway again.

Good luck as a car owner Kevin. Maybe his enthusiasm will will quickly turn into a win. are these the same type of Champ Kart that we run on Fridays?

They are basically the same as what you guys at CLR run on Friday night. The main difference probably is that we run wings and have added a few minor safety features, otherwise the basic rules are WKA.

Didn't have a great night last night, but we came out in one piece. The rookie did a good job driving. We had one practice session before the race and we had a wheel fall off after about 5 laps. It was on tight but one of the studs broke. Then come feature time we had a miss in the engine and went a lap down early. The miss went away and we got a good drafting partner and were real fast after that. I guess it wasn't too bad for a deal thrown together less than 24 hours before race time.

Centerpoint - if you have some sponsor money to bring with you, I'll kick the kid out on the street ... lol

Humm, I'll have to think about the $3 offer. It's more than I'm getting now. I would like a TRE sticker though. I have LRC stickers on it (I had to make my own...hopefully I'll have real ones on by the next time we race). It really was a last minute deal though, and that's why the colors don't match!
