on Open Wheel Modified Series
(March 31, 2006 – Fayetteville,N.C.) With four events
of the 2006 Championship Modified Tour (CMT) complete
Mooresville, N.C. ace Brent Glastetter will head east
to Fayetteville Motor Speedway on Saturday April 8th
to try and keep his winning streak alive. The CMT
racing has provided action packed events as the series
heads to the fifth race of its 2006 championship
chase. Glastetter is currently on a two-race winning
run with victories in the most recent CMT events at
Lancaster, S.C. and Gastonia, N.C. The wins put
Glastetter atop the current point standings with a 35
point edge over his nearest pursuer Gary Winters of
Salisbury, N.C. The top eight drivers in the
championship chase are separated by less than one
hundred points in the wild scramble for the title.
With over a dozen events remaining on the 2006 CMT
campaign, the father and son duo of Craig and Jim
Shuffield (Fayetteville, N.C.) sit solidly in the
points race in the third and fourth positions. The
younger Shuffield, Craig, continues to pull
double-duty racing his Open Wheel Modified on the CMT
circuit while also challenging for the Rookie of the
Year award on the Carolina Clash Super Late Model
Series. Currently fifth through eighth in the CMT
standings show Derrick Francis (Franklinton, N.C.),
Stoney Jackson (Bowman, S.C.), Ricky Boahn (Puppy
Creek, N.C.) and Mack Coxe (Raeford, N.C.) still in
the thick of the title chase. Wayne Gray of
Fayetteville and L.D. Shoemake of Charlotte round out
the top-ten in the standings.
During the first four sanctioned races on the CMT
calendar, a total of 74 drivers from 21 different
states and Canada have entered series events. The
Saturday April 8th event at Fayetteville Motor
Speedway will see the Open Wheel Modified drivers
battle in a 25 lap $1,500 to win affair. The CMT
competitors will join the Carolina Clash Super Late
Models on the racing program along with racing in the
Limited Late Model, Super Street, Pure Stock and 4
Cylinder support divisions. Pit Gates will open at
1:00 p.m. with Grandstand Gates opening at 4:00 p.m.
on Saturday April 8th at Fayetteville Motor Speedway.

Registration and technical inspection opens at 2:00
and closes at 5:15 pm. Driver’s meeting will be held

The Open Wheel Modifieds of the CMT offers more
flexible rules to teams than other Modified
organizations, which makes it more of a universal fit
in the technical aspect of body and engine rules.
Drivers from other sanctions, such as United
Midwestern Promoters (UMP) and International Motor
Contest Association (IMCA), find difficulty in
constantly changing their cars from the rules of one
sanctioning body to another, while CMT allows drivers
from each of the aforementioned sanctions, as well as
others, to compete head to head without dramatic and
costly changes to their racecars. The official web
site for CMT is www.champmodtour.com and the tour’s
e-mail address is cmt1@champmodtour.com.
