i see that the purse is 1500.00 but only see them on the schedule but 3 times i hope that james and the clr staff would rethink and put the late models back on the schedule more and i think that the fans would show up
Everytime they were on the schedule last year the fans did not show up and neither did the cars....that is why they were pulled before.

April 22 $1500 to win at CLR or $50,000 to win in Charlotte? Where do you think diehard dirt SLM fans will be? Just my 2 cents.

Don't you think that might have had something to do with the fact....every time he scheduled LM at CLR there was a special event the same night at Clarys or Fayetteville or Dublin. Could have been!!!!!!

hey james please think about putting the late models on the schedule for more than just 3 races this year and i think that if u give them one more chance u will get surprised at what late models will show up if u were to talk to eddie radford about the super 7 late models and some special shows or something like that i know that u wouldn't see ray tuck er but i thin k that u would get more of the locals or atleast when clarys were off anyway i will be there everyweek that they run anyway becaise i am on a race crew this year so u will get my money

Our schedule was made in the off season. We did not make it as we went. We had no control over what other tracks were scheduling on the nights that we ran Late Models.

Dirtslinger319 - As much as I hate to disagree with people, I remember a night last year when CLR had the late models and Clary's was off. I thought the late model turnout would be better that night but it was the same as usual. I don't think the Clary's late models are going to come out to CLR unless the purse is similar to Clary's, which is not economically feasible with CLR becuase the late model shows had no more butts in the seats than the shows without late models.
And clrfan2005, I don't mean to be mean here, but are you talking about the same Eddie Radford at Wayne County that had to close the season early because of all the money they were losing? Not sure I'd want to follow his advice either.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the late models back at CLR more. But given a choice between a season that included the late models but lost so much money that the track had to close in 2007 (and beyond), and not running the late models regularly but being able to open their doors in 2007, I'd take the latter.

Why not just run 2 big races for SLM? $3000 to win each, on 2 of the weeks Clarys is off.

Well said Kevin. I could not agree more. As to the statement about the two $3000 to win races. It is better to add and event to the schedule, than to have to remove it from the schedule. Nothing is set in stone, it all depends on how the season is going and sponsorship. Sponsors are not knocking down our door and throwing money our way. We have five other divisions to consider, not just the Late Models. I enjoy watching the Late Models as well, but the future of racing at CLR is with the other divisions. If the regular weekly divisions continue to improve in car count and the attendance improves, then more special events can be added. It does not happen over night.
Different things work for different tracks. I am not knocking anyones ideas or suggestions, but we can not risk failure just to satisfy a few people.

I think that needs to be done is to think about some special events that include the late models, For example maybe a Military appreciation night in support of the military members here and over seas, I am in the Air Force and try to attend as many races as possible and I like the late models also but understand that the purse will not draw them there or in the stands. Special events will draw the cars regardless of what cars are there if the fans enjoy it. I am leaving in may for overseas and will miss most of the season at all tracks because I like all racing dirt, asphalt, drag racing and will miss them all but still support them in my heart.

Trust me on this one. James loves watching late models, his numerous trips to Eldora might prove that. But James and Kevin both make really good points, the money isn't there. I would rather go to CLR(which is in my backyard almost) and see a race with no late models(yall make sure I just said that...dang I did didn't I) than no race at all.

Phil Campbell is the weekly announcer for County Line Raceway. I have not heard from Steve Vail since he left before last season.

Phil will do a good job for you, he did a great job for us at King's and has filled my spot well at Wake County. He is also a great guy........he gave me a fender for my birthday off of my favorite NASCAR driver of all time.........im a little embarrassed to say but, I appreciate that WALLY DALLENBACH JR FENDER........lol........

Ok My 2 cents put up more than 1500 for the late models and they might make the drive but its to many tracks around that pay better something to think about

Well personally I have to say that i think James and the rest of the Upchurches do a very good job. When James puts his mind to something for the most part it gets done. I have been going out to CLR for 6 or 7 years now and seen what difference the track owners have made from the others. And with the late models even though my brother races one i would rather see all the other divisions over them any day. There is just not alot of passing and as interesting as the other divisions other than u walk away with a mouth full of dirt. But anyways I am just ready to go back racing this season. Good Luck to all and see ya this sat.

I've read all of the response on the Late Models on this post. There are a lot of good ideas about this matter. But my question is this: How many drivers and fans would guarentee James they will show up if he puts up 3000.00 to win in Late Model? This of course happening on a week-end that other dirt tracks were closed.

There is no guarantee that more money will bring more spectators and more cars than now. The tracks in eastern North Carolina have higher payouts than tracks in other parts of the country, but the car counts are higher in most other parts of the country. I have been saying for the last couple of years that we at CLR need to concentrate on getting the other divisions built back up. And that has been happening. I think the Crate Late Model Series is the wave of the future , it is very affordable.
