LANCASTER, SC – Matt Long will enter Lancaster Speedway as one of the favorites to carry home the $2,500 first place payday in the inaugural running of the NDRA Finals Saturday night November 14th, but Long has bigger plans than that.
The personable Ohio transplant sits just 42 points out of the championship lead and that carries a $10,000 check.
“Lancaster is going to be fun,” said Long. “My goal is a top 3 in the final points. We would need a lot of luck to win the points, but anything is possible this weekend,” said Long.
Gray, GA’s Hunter Peacock will enter the event with a 20 point lead on hometown and local favorite Timbo Mangum. Peacock took the win in Round One at Friendship Speedway.
“I think there will be a lot of cars that will come to race that are not eligible for the points, so that may play a role in where some of the current top 5 finish,” added Long. “It will be really tough to catch Hunter and this is Timbo’s home track, he runs really well there.”
Lancaster Speedway is one of the oldest tracks in the South and has been the sight of many big events including NASCAR Grand National races back in the 1960’s. The long straightaways and tight corners produce lightning fast speeds and lots of side by side action.
“Hands down- The atmosphere at Lancaster is one of the best around- rowdy, loud, passionate fans, there is always some kind of excitement,” said Long “ The racing is usually pretty good, with a good bit of old school “rubbin and banging. It Should be a wild night this Saturday with everyone that will be there- Timbo, Hunter, Baker, Mosley, Parker, etc!”

Long collected his first career GM Performance victory earlier in the season at Carolina Speedway and that led to more wins throughout the year. “My season has turned out pretty good,” said Long. “We really struggled at the beginning of the year with the new Car, but things really turned around from June on. We have run really well the last month in big races, but just didn’t have any luck. I want to thank all the people that have supported us this season like; Gazzu Energy Drinks, Circle K, Heintz Performance Parts, VP Racing Fuel, J&J Race Cars, Integra Shocks, Rocket Chassis, JM Adams Oil, Jim Cook Transmissions, Butlerbuilt Seats
The NDRA is in its inaugural season and sanctions dirt tracks in NC, SC and VA. It was recently announced that the sanctioning body would continue its relationship with Goodyear Racing Tires into the future.
Also on the card for November 14th will be the Super Street, Pure Street, Crate Sportsman and Super Stock Four. The pit gate opens at 2:30 with grandstand gates opening at 3:30. The drivers meeting will be at 5:00 pm.
