If JD McDuffy had hit a styrofoam barrier or Richy Evans had hit one they both would still be here. I would rather see that then nothing at all to keep them out of the infield.

Bill when did this deal for Austin with Ricky's old car owner come about? Is the rocket there tonight?

Charlie and Ricky and differences of opinions on what tracks to run, and what to do to the car, plus Charlie owes Ricky some money. So Ricky told Charlie he was gone, and he got his own car [88] and Charlie took his toys and went over to Austin Hubbards camp. I don't think that will last long though. It's in court now for settlement on how much Charlie owes Ricky. I do know it's a nice chuck of change.

As Wesley said earlier Jeff Cook was hurt and transported to the hospital. I just saw this post over on trackforums.

A friend of mine just posted this on face book.
Carol just heard from Jeff . He has a broken nose, broken jaw, teeth knocked out. Nicole said not looking good.Nicole just called and told me that Tim Fuller and Chub Frank both were hurt and Jeff Cook's wife broke her ankle trying to get to Jeff. The track is a mess and a lot of the drivers want even run because it's so bad .All of these drivers need our prayers as well as Jeff's wife.

Thoughts and prayers for all involved and the ones remaining also.

Tickets will be good tomorrow night or call the ticket widow if you can't make it tomorrow night. With all the equipment and resources they have there's no excuse for that track to have not been ready. Hell how many days has it been now since it rained in NC? 3 sunny and windy days by my count and I don't even know what it did in Charlotte on Sunday.

4m sure will be fun tonight and tomorrow.

Cooke, Frank injured during heats

In Wednesday's first heat race at Lowe's, a dirt clod apparently flew into Spartanburg, S.C., driver Jeff Cooke’s cockpit and pierced the shield of his helmet, drawing a red flag while safety workers scrambled to help him.

Cooke was knocked unconscious and his car hit the wall and came to rest on the backstretch. Safety crews had to cut the halo frame away to remove Cooke from the car.

It was initially reported that Cooke would be taken to a nearby hospital via a medical helicopter, but after Cooke regained consciousness, he was taken by ambulance. Cooke was awake and alert before the ambulance left for the hospital, where he was checked out with X-rays.

After the incident, track crews used a road grader to cut down the berm around the bottom of the racing surface, a buildup of dirt that was wide with many loose dirt clods.

“Guys are getting into and it’s throwing rocks and stuff up onto the track,” Francis said before Cooke's accident. “I think it’s hurting the race surface a bit, and it’s not safe.”

Cooke wasn't the only driver running into trouble in the heat races on a night with high-speed, rough conditions on the racing surface. WoO regular Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa., suffered a facial injury and Steve Shaver's No. 30 got upside down in the second heat. Frank suffered broken bones in his face but is expected to put off surgery for repairs until he returns to Pennsylvania.

Bill when did this deal for Austin with Ricky's old car owner come about? Is the rocket there tonight?
Yes Ricky Elliot was there along with hauler and car but he never unloaded. Guess he was saving it for the finals. Hubbard is now #45

---------- Post added at 05:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:01 AM ----------

Not according to the message I got from Hubbard. The drivers where done.
Thats not true bc i was in the pits as they were getting ready for the main and Hubbard was in car ready to go along with others and then they postponed it.

There was not alot of fans in the stands. It was cold also. The track wasnt that bad, I have been there and seen it alot worse. The problem was dirt clods flying up off the track. They were flying into stands and hitting fans and also flying up and hitting drivers. Have no clue why they waited so late to decide to postpone after they were already calling the drivers to line up and had the track ready to race. It shouldnt have been no problem to work/fix the track again if thats what they wanted to do bc they had already graded the track 2 times i believe earlier and it wasnt that much of a delay. Why run the whole show then postpone before the feature. Made no sense, the conditions were not getting worse. It was getting better.

what was the disqualification of Cruz Pedragon?

And a "hat's off" to the drivers who stood up and said something about the track conditions. It's one thing to have a rough track, and I've seen a lot of these drivers wheel around some rough tracks. Two years ago, the first night of the finals was so rough it was catching the front nose pieces of some cars and dragging them under. Kid Rocket was taken out while leading the race.

BUT, it's another thing where track conditions are causing safety issues. Good Job to the their that stood up in the name of safety.

For a track owned by a man with more money than the government, Bruton Smith should be down right embarassed that the track was in that condition to begin with! The sun has been up for almost two hours today, I hope they have the tractors out there cutting the track and re-working for the rest of the weekend.

Pedragon was light at the scales. Also when I got to the track and looked at it for the first time it looked diff than I have ever seen it. Instead of it being real smooth and wet like usual it was cracked up like it had been ran on and dried out and then they just added water

Bruton doesn't care about this track, plain and simple. With Roger Slack and Humpy Wheeler gone, this track will more than likely cease to exist in a few years.

This is probably true it will probably be torn down in years to come to make more parking for the drag strip :07Sucks:

Its a shame too cause it is a nice place its no VMS or Lucas Oil track but it is a nice place

According to Bloomquist (interview over track PA), the initial problem was with the chunky inside berm that drivers were going low and hitting, knocking chunks back onto the groove.

Once they fixed that and re-cut the track after the heats, the track was in pretty good shape. Don't forget, Josh Richards broke the track record in qualifying. The track was fast. Perhaps that's the problem. Cars are so good now that they can go faster than the driver is up to. Rocky Top had to cancel a race a few weeks ago because of this issue. One driver (Eddie Carrier) banzaied it and flipped. Suddenly, the track was too fast and dangerous. Since when is a race track "too fast"? I thought that was part of the game.

I've long been critical of Lowes being a bad surface and the track looked great after the consis last night.

I was sitting with someone last night who has been involved in dirt track racing for decades in the Ohio Valley. His comment: There are too many GD primadonas in this sport now; they need to either race or take their **** home. I agree, I think they should have raced last night.

Also, after Jeff Cooke's problem, the Bloomquist cars (or the drivers that buy them) really need to add some screen bars in front of the driver. If Jeff had some bars there, he probably wouldn't be in the hospital today.

thats unreal, that's were a sheep foot and disk, keep the clods of dirt smaller then that mountain of a chuck. I've heard tell of tracks using that much dirt to resurface a whole track [LOL]

It doesn't even look like a clod of dirt it kinda looks like a red dirt covered piece of concrete
