As area speedways have one by one presented their closing events, it’s only another week until Hagerstown Speedway’s 22nd Annual Octoberfest 350 to wrap up its season.
Entries from numerous top drivers have arrived at Hagerstown for its grand finale on October 24th and 25th, which, after 21 years, has put the top four dirt motorsports divisions all together for one big extravaganza.
The top drivers in late models, big block modifieds, small block modifieds and super sprints will be vying for $10,000 awaiting winners in each of the main events with $400 to start each feature.
It’s a completely full and busy weekend of racing with Saturday reserved for all qualifying heats and B-Mains in all four divisions. Expect between 150-200 overall entries with 25-30 qualifying events required to set the starting lineups for Sunday’s main events when late models, small and big block modifieds compete in 100-lap feature events while the super sprints go 50-laps.
Ernie D’s will be supplying the late model winner trophy while D&D Auto Recycling will provide those to the big and small blocks along with the sprint divisions.
Josh Richards, in a close battle for the World of Outlaw Late Model championship, locked up a guaranteed starting spot following his opening day win on March 7th while Richie Pratt also took his big block modified to victory that same day. Matt Sheppard owns the small block modified guaranteed spot with his March 10th victory and with the sprint qualifier lost to weather, Stevie Smith had to wait for his win in the May Keystone Cup event to lock up that spot.
When Richards developed a flat tire at the halfway mark in last year’s event after leading and had to pit, Tim McCreadie took over the top spot and continued on to claim his first event victory while Richards stormed back to end second.
Gary Stuhler, who won the inaugural 1988 event, leads the late model win column, having also scored three more times; 1996, 1999 and 2003.
Brett Hearn, the overall leading modified winner at Hagerstown, has scored the small block portion twice, in 2000 and 2005, while is the defending big block winner with previous wins in 1993, 1997 and 2001
Billy Pauch remains the overall leading Octoberfest event winner, having won in three different divisions. He’s claimed back to back sprint wins in 1988 and 1989, a single small block win in 1999 and has four big block modified triumphs in 1988, 1992, 1995 and 1996.
In the super sprints, back to back defending winner, Fred Rahmer made the best of a second initial green flag start last year to take and hold the lead over Greg Hodnett to score his third win, he also won in 2004. Hodnett also has his name on the 2003, 2005 and 2006 victories.
Lance Dewease leads the division with four wins in three different cars. He’s scored in 1994 and 1997 and then put back to back wins together in 2001 and 2002.
Donnie Kreitz Jr. is also a three time winner, having the honors in both 1991 and 1992 and then again in 1996.
General admission for Saturday is $30 and $35 for Sunday, while the best buy in motorsports is available for $40 covering admission both days. Children under 12 are free general admission only.
Reserved seats are available for the two day price of $50 while individual prices are Saturday, $35 and Sunday, $40.
Pit entry is $50 for the weekend pass. There are no single day passes. There are no refunds.
Pit gates open both days at 8:00 am. On Saturday, pit gates will open FOR CAR HAULER DRIVERS ONLY at 6:30 am in the order they arrived upon paid pit registration.
Grandstands open daily at 9:30 am. Racing begins at noon.
No alcohol or glass bottles permitted to be taken past the spectator gate or into the pit area.
