Bandits Press Release

The Chris Loan Memorial for the Cline Construction Steel Block Bandits is just around the corner at Eastside Speedway. Who will claim the $2000 check in the Ernie D’s Enterprises Victory Lane on October 17th? Not only will the winner receive a $2000 check but the lucky winner will also receive an 8-foot tall trophy honoring the late Chris Loan.

Kris Looney has sealed the deal with his 17th place finish at Natural Bridge back on September 19th. He is the 2009 Cline Construction Steel Block Bandits Points Champion. With that being said, 2nd – 10th is still up for grabs. It looks like the real points battle will be from 2nd – 6th, which has less then a 70 point’s separation.

On October 17th at Eastside Speedway the fans will see the top Mid Atlantic Region late model race teams make there final Bandit stop of the 2009 season. This 40-lap feature will keep fans on the edge of their seats and the drivers up on the wheel to claim the season finale “The Chris Loan Memorial”.

I've checked the Eastside website, but I can't find a definitive time for this weekend's race. I hope it's early since they are calling for weather to move in and low temps hovering around freezing.

Is this global warming? I don't recall it getting this cold this early. Seems to be about 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule.

Hope they got lot's of their chili ready.

Thank you for adding the requested info on your webpage.

I see that the gates open at 2pm with drivers meeting at 4pm. I'm glad to see they should be starting earlier than the normal 7pm. According to weather.com, the low temps have been upped a little. Let's hope that trend continues.

General admission is $15 and pits are $25.

It's too bad Eastside can't update their website to focus on this weekend's race instead of the Halloween weekend. Their site shows the gate price will be the normal $10 (they put an asterik next to dates that will have increased cost, but there's no asterik next to 10/17; nor is there any note about earlier start times).

Sorry guys, but with a 50-60% chance of weather and wind chills hovering just above freezing, I'll think I'll have to pass on this show tonight.

I see where you've posted on another board that the race is on. Don't know why.

This took the bonehead move of the weekend award.

With teams and fans posting messages that the weather would be too cold/wet, and that they were not going to waste the gas, they went ahead with the show. Guess what? Before heats could be run, the rain came and the event was postponed.

38 teams were on hand. Don't know if they were all for the Bandits, or if it was 38 cars for all divisions. But, no matter, 38 teams wasted gas and time, hauling to an event that even the most diehard could tell wasn't going to happen and would have been a miserable disaster if it had.

I went to South Boston and at 6pm (approximate starting time for the Bandit show), I was freezing my ass off. Thankfully, my race only had about another hour to go. But, if it was that uncomfortable in South Boston, I can only imagine what it must have felt like in Waynesboro. And I hate to think what it would have felt like 3-4 hours late when the feature would have run.

They had 38-39 LM on had and the Sun was out up until the First LM heat. I have seen it rain all around Potomac Speedway before and not rain a drop at the track. U can't fault the track for trying.
