The Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC officially re-opens tommorrow with the "Strutmasters 265." This marks the first race at the track since it closed in October 2003. Orange County is a fast, high-banked 3/8 mile asphalt track and will feature four divisions (Late model stock car, Limited sportsmen, Grand Stock, and Pure stock). The track will run under ASA sanction. Please check out their website at http://www.ocstrack.com/ .

I believe that this track is the closest stock car track to me that I have not attended a race at. So, I'm going to try to get to tommorrow's race to check it out and take some pics. Hopefully they will grant me the kind of access I need to get really good pics of the action.

The track was packed, line all the way back to Hwy 57 to get in, most of the bleachers were in and it looked like everyone was having a great time. Cash started his season off right by qualifying 3rd and passing Peyton Sellers on the 54th lap and cruising to a win by 4 seconds. Don't know how the rest of the classes finished, there is a story on the Durham Herald Sun web site.

Yes, it looked like a very good crowd, which was great news for the track. The other divisions, unlike the LMSC, all went pole-to-win. I still enjoyed the racing though (despite the track's biggest drawback - no clay on the racing surface! :18lol: ). The other winners were Justin Snow (#7) in the Limiteds, Robert Steven (#22) in the Grand Stocks, and Shawn Laws (#77) in the Pure Stocks.

I took a lot of photos that I hope to have up tommorrow depending on how I feel. I do, however, have the winner's circle photos ready now.

Thanks, RJ. This was a very popular track before it closed. Looks like it will be again. I think it will need to get added to the asphalt tracks. The woman I talked to there said she would send weekly press releases by e-mail to LRC. The first was going to go to me because I wasn't sure of the LRC e-mail address to give her, but I told her I'd get the right one to her before the next race (still haven't gotten her release yet).

news@localracechat.com we will put the news in the news forum..I'm getting ready to get rid of a few asphalt forums. No sense in having them if no one is using em..;)

SWEET ...... I just heard this weekend that OCS was reopening, and could find no info untill I ran across this site. I spent 4 years there as a spotter, it will be nice to get back up there and watch some racing.
