Rookie Matt Hill took the lead with two laps to go to win his career first in the Crate Model division. Fourteen year old Amanda Whaley took control of the lead at the drop of the green with Mike Williams running in second. Chris Hitchens held the third spot with Nick Davis running strong in fourth and Tyler Reed in fifth.
Hill entered the top five on lap six and took fourth from Davis at the halfway sign. Whaley built a comfortable lead as Hill moved by Hitchens for third and went to work on Williams for second. Just as Hill took second the first yellow was out on lap 12 when Hitchens slowed to a stop eliminating Whaley’s lead.
On the restart Hill moved by Whaley and the yellow was out for a final time as Randy Given and Brenty James both stopped. Both Hill and Whaley had good restarts but Hill’s Curray Farms/Warrior was the stronger of the two cars as he drove to the checkered. Whaley equaled her personal best by finishing in second with Mike Williams third but his car failed the post race inspection. Third went to Davis with Ryan Walls fourth and Reed rounded out the top five. Walls was also the fast qualifier.
