Richard Jarvis, Jr. was smooth and patient as he worked his way through the field to win the Super Late Model feature Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway. Jarvis started 11th in the field and took the lead just past the halfway sign.
Young Derrike Hill is starting to come into his own as a driver and demonstrated that by setting the early pace in the feature event. Rick Whaley worked by Mark Pettyjohn to take second on lap two. Pettyjohn got around in the second turn bringing out the yellow. Hal Browning took over the third spot with Dale Lingo in fourth.
Whaley, looking for his first win of the season, moved to the point on lap four with Browning working by Hill two laps later for second. Both Ray Davis, Jr. and Jarvis were on a charge taking third and fourth respectively on lap seven.
Davis and Jarvis continue to work in tandem as they moved by Browning for second and third. At the halfway sign, Whaley was still setting the pace with Jarvis getting by Davis for second. Browning chased in fourth and Hill hung on to fifth.
Jarvis took the lead from Whaley on lap 11 just as the final caution waved for Bob Geiger who had come to a stop. Jarvis was smooth as glass the rest of the distance as he drove the topless Mid-Coastal Siding/Rocket to the checkered. Davis finished in second with Donald Lingo, Jr. coming on strong in the final five laps to finish in third. Fourth went to Whaley with Ross Robinson making a late race charge for fifth.
“We should do this more often,” smiled Jarvis. “We had an awesome night tonight. We started in tenth and worked our way up. The track was good.” Heats were won by Whaley and David Hill.
