Donald Lingo, Jr. picked the perfect time to get his first win of the season Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway. The 30-lap event paid $1250 to win plus the bonus money for the Elk Mooneyham Memorial added a $2500 bonus to the winner plus an additional $1500 to the top finishing regular running on the DIS track tire. Lingo collected it all with the win worth a total of $5250.
A solid field of 22 Super Late Models was in the pits with invaders including Ricky Elliott in his own new Barry Wright chassis No. 88, Rick Hulson, Tim Murphy, Matt Murphy, Roland Mann and Mark Pettyjohn. Heats were won by Hal Browning and David Hill. An unusual “hot dog eating contest” was held to determine the first four starting spots in the feature with Donald Lingo, Jr. getting the pole.
Lingo immediately took control at the drop of the green with Elliott, Browning and Rick Whaley in close pursuit. Browning ramped up the crowd with a pass on Elliott for second on lap five. The first yellow didn’t fly until lap nine when Matt Murphy came to a stop in the fourth turn.
Lingo continued to set the pace with Whaley dropping Elliott to fourth on lap 11. Whaley didn’t stop his charge there as he got by Browning for second on lap 13 and at the halfway sign the top five were Lingo, Whaley, Browning, Elliott and Richard Jarvis, Jr.
Elliott raced his way back into third on lap 16. The second yellow was out three laps later as Mann slowed. Jarvis got by Browning on the restart with Ross Robinson following into third. Lingo maintained a three car length advantage over Whaley but the yellow as out for a third and final time with two laps left to go when Mark Pettyjohn got around barely collecting Browning.
The final two laps provided no surprises for Lingo as he collected his first checkered of the season in the Lingo Marine/Rocket. “We’ve been fast at times this year,” smiled Lingo. “We just haven’t been at the right place at the right time. If any night was a good night to be there, tonight was the place to be. I have to thank my hot dog eater, Clay Tatman because the way the track was whoever jumped out front was going to be the winner.”
Whaley ended an excellent run in second with Elliott third. Fourth went to Jarvis with Robinson rounding out the top five. Defending champion, Ray Davis, Jr. took a wicked flip off the first turn in his heat. Davis was badly shaken but was not seriously injured.

RESULTS CRATE LATE MODELS
Tyler Reed led the first three laps of the 15-lap Crate Model feature before Ryan Walls moved on top. Nick Davis followed into the second spot and at the halfway sign the top five were Walls, Davis, Herb Tunis, Reed and Chris Hitchens.
It was smooth sailing for the leader until two laps to go. Davis was pressuring Walls for the lead when Randy Givens spun in front of the leaders in turn three. Walls made a last second decision to go low and Davis went off the top side with both cars narrowly missing Givens. On the restart, both Davis and Reed mounted a charge for the lead but Walls was able to keep his Huffman Racing/L&L HVAC/Warrior out front for his second consecutive win. Davis finished in the second spot by half a length over Reed in third. Fourth went to Hitchens and Amanda Whaley posted her best finish in fifth. Walls set fast time in qualifying.
