Ronnie DeHaven, Jr. was a surprise visitor to the Winchester Speedway Saturday night, as the former regular who has made his home the past few seasons at Hagerstown S peedway pulled into the pits.
DeHaven was looking to test a car that in the past has been a trouble car for him, by the end of the evening a troubled car would become a favored car. Starting from the pole slot DeHaven jumped into the lead, the race was quickly stalled though when Brad Omps spun to a stop in turn two on the second lap quickly bringing out the caution.
When the field returned to racing it was DeHaven jumping solidly into the lead and pulling away using a higher groove to pull away from second place Denny Bonebrake. The field was blistering the track with no cautions as the race was winding quickly down.
Denny Bonebrake was holding second down, while Wes Bonebrake and Tommy Armel battle for third spot. On lap 18 the second and final caution would come out when Scott Merryman racing Tony Crim for the fifth spot got into the quarterpanel of Crim in turn three and looped his car to a stop.
At the green flag Ronnie DeHaven again pulled out to an untouchable lead. Meanwhile Wes Bonebrake began to challenge his father for second spot and put on an amazing show as the two Bonebrake’s battled over the final laps.
At the line it was no question as Ronnie DeHaven, Jr scored his first win of the season, but at the line son bested father as Wes Bonebrake scored second over Denny Bonebrake, Tommy Armel helped his points title hopes out with a fourth place finish, while Tony Crim knocks on the door with a strong fifth place finish.
Rounding out the top ten was Walter Crouch, Shane Coffey, Kris Eaton, Brian Tavener, and Scott Merryman who battled from his lap 18 incident to score the 10th position.
Heats for the 20 cars entered went to Denny Bonebrake and Ronnie DeHaven, Jr.
