Round 2:
Potomac Speedway
Budds Creek, MD
Bad weather seems to follow the Cline Construction Co. Steel Block Bandits everywhere they go in their maiden voyage. Rain hit the Potomac Speedway before the races started, but Greg Gunter and his Potomac Speedway staff were able to get the event going for the evening. 22 cars signed in despite the chance of bad weather. Heats for the event went to Bruce Kane, Kyle Lear, and winner of the first race at NBS Walker Arthur after a heated battle with Buddy Isles.
The feature event lined up and the green flag flew with Kyle Lear taking the early advantage over Bruce Kane as the two Potomac Speedway regulars put on a spirited duel for the lead early. But caution fever caught up early with the first one flying on lap five when Bubby Tharp spun in turn two and collected Mark Jones.
The third caution flew with one more lap complete for the biggest fracas of the night when Mike Latham and David Puckett got together off turn two, the wreck would collect Bandit regular Kris Looney and Stevie Long amongst others. With each green Lear and Kane would renew the battle as Kane would go low with Lear high, but Lear would hold his lead.
Suddenly a light rain began to fall, and when the ninth caution came out when Bubby Tharp slowed to a stop in turn two, the previously light drizzle turned into a steady rain, after circulating the detiorating track for several laps the red flag would fall. After a few minutes track officials determined that the track was lost and the event was postponed with 15 laps completed.
The event will be picked up a later date to be determined by Potomac and Steel Block Bandit officials.
