April 18 2009.......

98 stock cars filled the pits Saturday nite as the first warm Saturday night of the season brought in the fans and the competitors to the Winchester Speedway.

The night would see Gerald Davis clicking off a win in the Late Model class, Bryan Wright first timing it in the Limited Late class, Mike Rose taking a Pure Stock victory, Roger Whitlock returning to the forefront in the four cylinder division, and Travis Umbarger taking the win in the U-Car class which is now to become one of Winchester’s weekly featured divisions.

With 22 cars starting the Late Model feature, it was Denny Bonebrake of Hagerstown, MD jumping to the early lead in the 37 car, as the long20time frontrunner at Winchester began to assert his lead and pull away.

And with the first half of the race going by in a very quick pace with no cautions flying it looked as if Bonebrake would take his first win of the season going away.
The first caution came out just past the halfway point with 14 laps complete and saw Bonebrake holding the lead over Tony Crim in second.

Following an aborted restart for the spinning car of Troy Erickson, Bonebrake again began to pull away. Bo Feathers making his first start of the season began to challenge
Wayne Johnson for third when he got caught behind the lapped car of Don Woodruff which saw Gerald Davis move into fourth and then into third as the race began to wind down with Bonebrake again charging his lead.

The complexion of the event would change when the caution came out for debris with just five to go allowing Davis to close in onto the back of Tony Crim’s second place car.
Immediately upon returning to green Davis would move into second and began to challenge Bonebrake using the high side line to his advantage. The two would battle side by side for the remaining laps with Delray, WV resident Gerald Davis pulling ahead to take his first win of the season over Bonebrake.

Tony Crim parlayed a strong start into a strong run and a season best third for the Front Royal, VA driver. Wayne Johnson of Hancock, MD would take fourth with last weeks winner Winchester, VA driver Tommy Armel taking the top five.

The top ten was rounded out by Bo Feathers, Wes Bonebrake, Herk Armel, Brian Tavenner, and Brad Omps.

Heats for the 22 cars were taken by Wes Bonebrake and Bo Feathers.

Last week Kris Holliday scored his first career win in the Limited Late division, this week Bryan Wright would look to take his career first starting up front in the Limited Late division.
With the car count much improved from last week, It looked to be a good night for racing in the Limited Late class. Two aborted restarts would be needed before the Limited field would take the official green and Bryan Wright would pull into the lead with Sean Dawson moving into the second spot.
The race which would feature 7 total cautions would see points leader Brian Buckler fall out following an incident which dama ged his 2B car at the halfway point along with last weeks winner Kris Holliday who would also go pitside before returning.
Trever Feathers would begin to challenge Sean Dawson for the second position during the second half of the event, and would have second with three to go when the caution would fly for the last time erasing Bryan Wright’s lead.
The green would fly with three to go and in the third corner Sean Dawson and Trever Feathers would make contact allowing Jon Painter to move into the second spot and dropping Feathers to fourth behind Dawson.
This was all the advantage Wright would need as he would take his first career win following two third place finishes to start the season. Painter would take second with Feathers working back around Dawson in the last lap to take third, Jeff Sweeney would come back from an earlier incident to take the fifth spot.
Heats for the 18 cars went to Jon Painter and Bryan Wright.
