DELMAR, Del. -- Mother Nature strikes out the season opener set to start the 09 season tonight. The Delaware International Speedway was all set to kick off the year tonight before Mother Nature made her call.
Fans are ready to get to the track to see their favorite drivers and teams. A fan can only go so far in waiting for the season as it is, let alone the first race of the season to be canned.
The track held a Test-n-tune last Saturday night where someone from every type class that runs at the track. Super Late Model, Napa Big Block Modified, the AC Delco Modified, crate Late Models (both are crate classes), URC Sprints, Little Lincoln Vintage Stock Cars and the Southern Delaware Vintage Club. Just of few of each of these cars on the track really got your blood circulating. Simply watching all the trailers lined up to go into the grounds got the adrenaline rushing through your body. Well, Mother Nature wins this time, but all that will change hopefully next Saturday Night.
I can tell you one thing? It is looking to be a fun year in racing even though the economy is hurting us all. The track has special nights for all types of family’s bargains. Besides the track is a good family sport done together. So many families get caught up with the daily schedule, with one going here and another going there. Go to the track together. It doesn’t matter what you do in today’s’ time as any recreational pleasure without costing something.
There are a good group of new young drivers this year. There are quit a few that are just in the age level of 14 yrs old to race. Some are from go-karts, and some of the Modified Lite cars drivers from DMP will run on the big track. Tyler Reed, Dylan Adams and, Amanda Whaley (daughter of super late model Rick Whaley) will try her hand in the crate late model. There are quite a few drivers that will surprise you. And you don’t want to miss all the action each week.
The URC Sprints will headline next weekend, April 18, along with the five regular Saturday night divisions. A mix of URC Sprints and the season opener will get all of us ready for 2009? Plus after the having to wait another whole week, everyone will be hyped for sure. Gates will open at 4:30 PM, cars hit the track at 7. Check out the tracks web if you need any info or you can always go to Redbud69racing.com for the happenings in Delaware. See you at the track!
