Mechanicsville Maryland’s Jamie Lathroum scored his first feature win of the season in last Friday nights 30-lap late model feature at Potomac speedway.
A victory in the first late model qualifier earned Lathroum the fourth starting spot for the feature. Lathroum left little doubt who had the fastest car on this night as he blasted into the lead by the completion of the events first circuit. From that point on, it would be a race for second, as Lathroum would eventually lead the remaining 29-laps to post his fifth-career Potomac late model feature win.
“This car was on a string tonight.” Lathroum said from Potomac’s victory lane. “Huey and all the guy’s had the car perfect tonight, I think anyone could have driven it.” Five caution periods during the race put the field on Lathroum’s back bumper, but he was more than up to the challenge. “The bottom was the place to be tonight.” Lathroum stated. “The top had gone away, so I knew if we held our line it would be tough to pass up there.” Ray Kable Jr. scored a solid second at the stripe with Kyle Lear coming home third, 12th starting Daryl Hills took fourth and Austin Hubbard completed the top-five. Heats for the 15-cars on hand went to Lathroum and Roland Mann.
In the sixteen-lap street stock feature Kurt Zimmerman raced to his first feature win of the season. Zimmerman would only lead one lap of the event as he took the race lead from Ben Bowie on the 15th lap and then held off Donnie Smith to post the win. Craig Tankersley would collect third, Mike Reynolds was fourth and Josh Gass completed the top-five. Heats for the 16-car field went to Reynolds and Zimmerman. In other action, James Marshall scored his second win in a row in the 20-lap modified feature, Rusty Alton took the win in the 15-lap hobby stock feature and Nick Catena annexed the 20-lap hornet main.
Pit Notes- Lathroum’s feature win and a fourth on opening night, vaulted him into the late model point lead. Opening day LM winner DJ Myers could only muster an eighth place feature finish. Once again Daryl Hills drove from deep in the pack to post his second consecutive top-five of the season. Street stock racer Donnie Smith scored his second-straight top-five of the season, giving himself the current street stock point lead.
