Midland Dustbowl

Thank goodness the Cabarrus County GIS has a very good site!!! They have aerials from 1938 thru 2007. Heres what info I have...Midland Dustbowl on Whitley Road. A 1/2 mile track that operated from 1948 thru the eary 50's. Directions to the track...From the interscetion of NC 24//27 & US 601...Go south on 601, 2.6 miles to Whitley Road and turn left...Go 0.4 miles to end of road. Ghost is 400 feet straight ahead. As soon as I Figure out how to save the images off the GIS site I will post a series of pics of the track tru the years. But till then here is the current GE Image.

you can ways tell a great "CLAY" dirt track by how much water it holds after its closed......lol....

If you are familar with the area Whitley Rd is across from the Owings Corning fiber optic cable plant. Or for the 70's era folks across from the old Parachute drop zone.
