Weedsport, NY – March 23, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director
The 2009 Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series opener, 7th Annual North-South Shootout at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on Saturday, March 28 is just five days away.
Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Series partnership with Advance Auto Parts based in Roanoke, Virginia, those top-10 drivers in the final 2008 Advance Auto Parts Series Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified will be profiled for each of the 10 days leading up to the event.
This talented group of drivers has accounted for 207 Advance Series race victories from the list of 67 drivers taking checkered flags in 619 tour events held at 45 speedways around the Northeast since 1980. Along with 870 DIRTcar Northeast Big-Block feature wins and 63 track point titles, these same 10 drivers have amassed nine overall Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Championships and all are expected back to compete full-time with the ’09 Advance Auto Parts Series, beginning with the Spring lid-lifter at Hagerstown.
All-time Advance Series winner Brett Hearn became the first driver to reach the century mark on tour yet his 100th career tour victory notched at Orange County Fair Speedway on July 31 was the last of the season for the Sussex, New Jersey speedster. Wheeling the potent Madsen Motorsports no. 20 Wentworth Custom Homes-Kruger-WLR/TEO car, the ‘Jet’ claimed the most heat race wins (14) and was twice fastest in Integra Shock Time Trials before fading to fifth on the final Mr. DIRTcar points chart.
The most prolific driver in DIRTcar Racing Northeast's traveling show, the 'Jet' has flown to the top of the Advance Series record book in nearly every significant category, including reaching victory lane at least once in 24 seasons of tour competition. The record-tying six-time overall Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Champion also tops the Advance Series speed chart with 40 career Integra Shocks Fast Times set, including single lap records established at three venues.
Competing in every ‘North-South Shootout’ held at Hagerstown Speedway since the 2001 tour opener, Hearn finally cracked the winner’s circle in ’06 and has finished in the Top-5 three of the past four races.
