Okay, if Jet is now a pond, and is north of Creedmoor, here's a possiblity, 3/8 "oval", it too is near I85 off of Brogden road on Hester road. The Creedmoor/Butner area must have been a hot-bed of racing activity back in the day as Jet and Butner Speedways are about three miles apart!

Yes it was also near I85. I was thinking it was Mangum Road,but it could be Brogdon road.It is right at Hester Road. If I get time I will go take a look soon its only about 15 miles from my house.In the mid to late 60's and early 70's this area was a hot for racing. during this same time frame there was a Franklinton Speedway just off US1 south on Race Track road,and an Oxford Speedway on Antioch road.

Nightrunner0 I looked on terraserver for signs of Oxford on Antioch Rd and W Antioch Dr. How about some directions and/or some landmarks....east or west side of road? Thanks

The "Other" track Butner can be seen on the Jet Motor Speedway thread....we were corrected...the one on this thread is Jet

Lucky 13, yes it's two different tracks: Butner Speedway (Butner, NC) and Jet Motor speedway ( north ofCreedmoor, NC) but three miles separate them!

Hope not to add any more confusion, but the Butner Speedway was also known as Tri-City Speedway at one time.

djSNUFFY, that would be on the east side of Antioch road. It should be near I85, I85 was still under constuction when it was in operation. I think there are houses there now.

Jet Motor Speedway was located on Hester road which could be accessed by Brogden road on the Stem side or Hwy 15 on the Creedmoor side. The track is now full of water which a farmer uses for irrigation but you can still see the tops of buildings in the infield. Butner Speedway has always been called that. The track was located of Hwy. 56 by turning beside Bobs Barbecue or Sibils truck stop back then. They have made a housing development at that site now. The track was paved before it closed and after closing was used for a go cart racing track 3 to 4 years ( late 70's ). When both were hot beds of racing you could go to Jet on Friday night and Butner on Saturday night. Some of the best drivers around came ( Ray Hendricks, Bill Dennis, Blue Burton, Eddie Royster, Glen Mcduffie, James Sears, Sam Sommers, Tommy Ellis, Sonny Hutchins, Earl Moss, Haskell Willingham ) to name just a few. I never missed a race at either track.
