In a 1969 edtion of the old "Carolina Dirt Track Circuit" there was an ad for the Kinston (NC) Speedway, racing was on Sunday afternoons. Anybody remember this one?

Seek & Ye shall find. I got a possible 1/4m ghost across from the southern end of Race Track Rd. Behind the current Jr High School. What do you think?

It looks as if Kinston Speedway met the same tragic fate of countless other local race tracks: HOUSING DEVELOPMENT, its two straight-aways are now known as "Lockwood Rd." and "Brentwood Drive". This familliar lay-out measures about .50 miles and lies one mile off of Greenville Hwy on Cunningham Road. The 1994 Terraserver image is unimistakable.

Dylan, there's three basic tools to start searching with: Google Maps (maps & satellite), terraserver.microsoft.com (aerial imagery and topography historical mapping), and Google Earth. You take what facts and hints that you know, and begin searching. Often, these tracks have been plowed under and literally do not exits in current photos.

For example, With Kinston, I "knew" that it was a 1/2 mile track and was on the "Greenville Hwy". I was able to locate Kinston beginning with Terraerver topography, which had a 1983 map. Google Earth has measuring capabilities and this site was exactly 1/2 mile. Also, turns out lots of old race tracks are on "race track road" , so googling "race track road" in a particular town of interest, is a pretty good way to start a search.
Finding old tracks fun, good luck searching.
