I know that Dinwiddie hosts the NHRA every year, but now you've got my interest up...

Here's a current view of the track. The oval looks lie it was in the west part of the grounds, and is probably part of the ATV/Motocross track. Think I'll contact 'em and see if the current management knows anything.

Speaking of Dinwiddie Speedway, in 2002 I acquired a tired old racer that had made its way to southeastern North Carolina. The only 'history' that came with the car was "from Virginia". Not a lot to go on, but over time, and good luck, was able to obtain the car's complete documentation and history. It was Dinwiddie speedway hobby class, built/owned by one Bill Penick and driven (mostly) by Cliff Garrish. The car's a '37 Plymouth, and back in the day, ran a slant-6 Chrysler! It's been restored as an Earl Moss tribute racer, but it's fun to know the real backgound too! Here's a photo-history of the car and its new life:

Found it!!! Westside of Vaughn Rd, 0.27m N of Flank Rd, powerline cut across just below turns 1&2. Terraserver topo shows track outline very well.

Dam, you're good! I looked at a more recent ariel of the area, and it's even further gone and hard to pick out now.

Just found a little information on this track. Hopefuly more will be coming soon.

It went by a couple of different names depending on ownership and promoters. I believe that it,also was part of a circuit with a couple of other local tracks and thee racing schedule was coordinated with the nearby tracks to allow drivers multiple racing opportunities each weekend. It seems to have been a great little 1/4 mile track.

Want to offer some info on the old Dinwiddie Speedway. It started up in 1954. It was first called Petersburg Speedway and later Dinwiddie Speedway. It was located on Vaughan Road in Dinwiddie, Va. It was not part of the dragstrip. It was a 1/4 mile banked dirt track. Although it is popularly reported that it closed in 1965 it actually ran a few races in 1966 before shutting down. I know because I was the scorekeeper for the first race in 1966.
