For some of the older fans and local race car drivers, there was another track that no one has thought about..!!! Here in North Carolina,"Rockfish Speedway". This track was located right outside of the little town of Rockfish.(Well, not even a town.!!) Don't really know how to pinpoint it other than out from Raeford and but south of Fayetteville. The track actually had 5 turns in it and several of the Fayetteville racers ran there. But'Lord have mercy' this track,i think, was running before the old Fayetteville speedway was even built..!!!! Does anyone have any more information or be more accurate about this old track??

Thanks modman, and yes there was a go-kart track. I ran there too!! But there was a stock car track that ran several years ago,oh gosh i'd say back in the late 50's to early 60's. I was a 'sure nuff kid' back then and can't remember a whole lot about the track..!! Maybe somebody can tell us more about it. Damn,it may take somebody 80 years old to tell us..LOL!!!!!!
Kenny I am not 80 but i went ther on Sunday affernon in late 50 early60 ARW

Hello there BW,you were close.! Bobby Sewell ran #6,Monk Hair was #7,but they lived almost next door to one another, well maybe 3 houses apart and seem like Bobby did drive Monk's car a few times back then. So yeah,he could have been #7 when you saw him. Do ya remember the old Rockfish Speedway???:smiley_797:

No No No Jim.!! You don't live "just a couple of miles" from the old Rockfish Speedway. Not the Rockfish Speedway that used to run back in the late 50's/early 60's..!! Now you may be a couple of miles from the old Rockfish go-kart track that used to operate years ago..!! But the car track was actually listed as a Hope Mills address but had the name Rockfish Speedway..!!! Boy,what a mess trying to figure this one out....!!! Hey,Jack Smith used to run there, driving a old coupe! I bet he can tell us where the track was....

According the Kenny this track would be the old go kart track. I was able to pin point the spot and this coordinates is in Rockfish, not Hope Mills. There's a house built in the infield now of the kart track. Kart tracks carry their own history.

Well, guess what guys.! Just got off the phone with a friend and found out that the Old Rockfish Speedway was indeed on 301 south, out from the Hope Mills area when 301 was just a 2 lane road back then.(now 4 lane). So ARW,you were right..!!! Was also told that it was listed as being in Hope Mills even though it really was'nt,but was
the only little town close to the track..!!!

Hi djSNUFFY,about all the infor. i can give ya is that this old track would be approx. 10 or so miles south of Fayetteville straight down 301 hwy (south). I hope you can find it cause i would love to see if there would be any evidence of the track left. Also,if ya will, see if you can locate the Dunn speedway that ran back the 60's.! Check out the "Dunn Speedway" post here on "ghost tracks" i posted today. Thanks a lot for what you do on this web sight..!!!!
