LINCOLNTON, NC – The dawn of a new era in dirt late model racing has arrived, with today’s announcement that one of the most famous names in the history of the industry will return in 2009.

Under the leadership North Carolina business men Larry Lee and Clint Elkins the National Dirt Racing Association (NDRA) will be re-born into a weekly sanctioning body and traveling series for the GM Performance Late Models.

“We have been approached for over a year and a half about putting together a program for the weekly racers,” said Lee, who is the President of the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series. “We sat down in early November and spoke to several sponsors and then attended the PRI show in Orlando and the response was phenomenal.”

The NDRA name was made famous in the late 70’s and early 80’s as a traveling Late Model organization.

“We were looking for a name and what better represents what we are than the National Dirt Racing Association,” said Elkins.

The NDRA will stay regional within the Carolina’s for 2009 before making the leap to a national sanctioning body in 2010.

“We want to ‘get our feet wet’ so to speak before we launch a national campaign,” said Elkins. “We are in the process of putting the pieces together and putting the people in place to make sure we can best serve the race teams and track promoters that we are affiliated with.”

“We have taken our time and we have developed a program that is not only good for the racer but the track promoters as well,” said Elkins, a former racer turned promoter. “I have been on both sides of the fence and we have used those experiences to put together a strong package for everyone involved.”

There are several incentives for the promoters to be sanctioned by NDRA but it is not limited to the tracks. A $25,000 points fund has been set up with the winner receiving $10,000 of the prize. Each track champion will also be rewarded for their efforts, as more details will be announced late next week.

Several sponsors including Goodyear, Heintz Brothers Performance, City Chevrolet, and Wells Fargo and Heintz Brothers Performance have already signed on with several more showing interest.
