That is so TRUE..........for way too long, racers have assumed that a race track will exist....somewhere! But, the sad reality is, it just a'int so! Part of the mission of 'Ghost Tracks' is to highlight this epidemic. It's easy and scary to connect the dots.....a'int a pretty picture, either. A race car, with no race track, has no value. We have to have TRACKS. It seems lopsided that in 2009, eastern North Carolina can only support three tracks!

It's just like anything else,
"ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE"
To many tracks running to many classes, with to many rules.
Somebody should have listen to some of the drivers.

FACT: Twenty Eight North Carolina Tracks have hosted NASCAR races over the years...28!!!
Today, only one (1) track hosts a NASCAR race. FACT
That doesn't even included the dozens of local tracks that have come and gone with the likes of Cotton and Tobacco.
Does anybody know how many tracks are in existence in North Carolina today?

Ya got that right!!! A track does not need more than 4 classes prefer 3 myself. SLM, Crate or Limed LM, Super Stock, and a 4 Cyl. Thats Plenty. If you dont run Supers run Mods or Renegades...... Nuff Said :DJ:

I wonder how many past promoters and track owners would tell you they closed due to pay out, (purse) the expense of the cars has created higher demands for larger purses.
I keep saying lets cut the cost of these cars, run as many divisions as you like but make them cost effective, so people can build cars, which increases your pit attendance.
Lower the cost on cars, to shorten the need for the high purses, which in turn will allow you cut ticket prices, more fans in the stands.
Its give and take by all partys involved, tracks, racers, and the fans.
What do you want to see 6 cars turning the track at a time of 14.50?
Would you like to see 15 cars racing at a time of 16.50?
Nascar doing it, what do you think the car of tomorrow is, and the no testing policy. All cost saving measures, and its working, look how many new teams at daytona this year.
Thats just my opinion
The rumor back in the day was that the American Legion was the blame for Wilson County Speedways closing. Dunno if that is true or not.
From what I know The American Legion had everything to do with Wilson County Speedway , they didnt want anymore stock car races , during the same period there were several people that wanted to buy the land to keep Wilson County alive but the American Legion said no way !!!

How much does it cost to run a Super Street now days? Would somebody please do an itemized run down of the cost of a weekly race? Just curious to understand the costs and maybe that will explain the reason tracks are closing. Just looking for Super Street costs.

I own a super street team, and have campaigned it weekly since 2006, mostly at Dublin. There are, essentially, no rules in super street, and the very few that did exist, are being further liberalized. And no consideration has been given to cost. For example: the engine size is 'limited' to 365 ci. This displacement, can not be attained with GM produciton parts. It requires a special aftermarket crankshaft to attain a stroke that allows this size. Why not simply limit engine size to that which equates to a STOCK 350 crank?? This is but the very tip of the super-street ice-berg, but it is very broad and deep. And, the super street class is now the "entry level" division!!!
But, if it IS entry level, the domination of a select few should be considered. For example, after a set number of victories, a driver must start in the rear of each race. Allowing the dominator to qualify on the pole, every week, does absolutely nothing to entice future entry level racers, as well as fan interest. Thinking outside the box, and not to a very few racers, is sometimes necessary. Faster is ALWAYS costlier, but usually not better, nor does it enhance the show.........and racing IS entertainment.

I absolutely agree!! And then tracks try to go high tech and some ppl cant afford crap like a race reciever. You know what I mean and honestly on a dirt track it causes more wrecks than anything because the fans can also tune into your race reciever now.

I say all tracks should be sort of strict but have a rule run what you bring meaning kinda like tires who cares what kind of tires you have long as you have them. Some ppl cant afford to keep buying new tires due to the fact that tracks like to change the name of them forget the name tires are tires to me! Run what you bring! done and said! Tracks need to work together! So that away there is not so much changing every weekend just to run a different track on friday and diff one on sat see what im saying.

If you ran 4 divisions, a limited late model(possibly a crate engine),
a junior late model stock front clip tubular rear chassis, with big springs and or leaf springs rear, plenty of these old cars around, a highly restricted engine, one you can build yourself.
Street stock, stock chassis factory, again highly restricted engine
stock body parts
pure stock name self explanatory
all divisions withn a tire rule (for economy)
competitive weight rules for all divisions
be honest with yourself how many cars fit this mold, how many cars could you draw with some minor engine and body modification
would fans pay for this, at a reasonable ticket price
promoters could afford to pay a fair purse, jmo
