Kings/Harpers Speedway

The track which used to be called Kings when it first opened up in Henderson NC. Then was bought and changed to Harpers. Anyone know if maybe they will ever do anything with that track ever again or has it gone to the waste like most eastern NC dirt tracks?

Your right, it was a good track to run at. My wife ran there just a few years ago, and we liked it really well.

i ran there a few yrs ago i liked the track not a real hp track and sorta flat but had a lot of fans there and u could park around turn 2

Your right, it was a good track to run at. My wife ran there just a few years ago, and we liked it really well.

yeah we used to run our car down there some. I loved that track used to stand up on top of the bank in turn 3. Pretty good track to run at and hate that its going to the dogs someone really needs to buy this track and keep it going. loved to see the supers run there also.

4sracing said about 2 months ago it was still up for sale?! Not sure dont go down that away much no more. Used to stay down there close around that area thats how I still know about this track.

dont remember who the promotor was but yes its kittrell i always say henderson lol sorry.

charlie had it when it was kings speedway. mr harper took it over for the final year and debbie ran it from what i remember. was a good track. only problem was if it rained real hard, couldnt get out of the pits

We opened the track in June of 2004 (I think)...Brinklyville/Clarys was CLOSED... We ran the rest of that year, up until Thanksgiving. We had a real good year that year. We were averaging 80-100 cars a night. The Thanksgiving race that year we had 150 cars. The next year Clary's opened and just about doubled the "KINGS PURSE", so it was a NO BRAINER business decision for most of the guys who lived that way to go a race closer to home for twice the money.

The car counts dropped to about 50, the fans were cut in half, but the expenses were the same. We started to lose money on a weekly basis, tried to run on Friday's, that did not appear to work. Tried 3 times and had less than 40 cars................ So just like any business, when you start to lose money EVERY WEEK on a CONSISTANT BASIS, you jump ship.

King's will never survive, if it opens and Clary's is open. There are not enough cars and people in that area to support two tracks. It will not work on Friday, due to the location of the track, and alot of people having to work.

I am affraid it will be another ghost track................... History is this............. there were 5 different owner/promoters and nobody could make any money there.:behead:

Yeah, Kings/Harpers was a pretty good track. There is just not enough cars around for it to race on Saturdays when Clarys is running, and they never drew enough on Fridays to make it work that way either.
