In the mid 1960's there was a dirt track on hwy 130 between Whiteville and Chadbourn. It was located on farm-land not too far from the drag strip, but on the opposite side of 130. Like many tracks of that era CC Speedway did not last but a few years, and vanished into antiquity. Found a couple of interesting shots from Terraserver (1999) and the same shot a few years later on Google. Don't know for sure if this is the old track, but it is in the same neighborhood. These photos are from 'Midway' road off of 130 between Whiteville and Chadbourn.

That measures 0.15 miles maybe a backyard kart track?

Here's another possible Columbus County Speedway ghost. The distinct footprint of a frontstretch and the arc of a first turn can clearly be seen. The remainder of the footprint is "fuzzy" but there are two visual possibilites, one sceanrio is about 1/4 mile and the possibility measures about 3/8. This location, adjacent to hwy 130 (4094 Chadbourn Hwy) and very near the old Columbus County drag strip is consistent with eyewitness accounts of the track's location.

From what I have heard about it, it was in the middle of a field, never had grandstands, and finally just plowed back into a field again. No guard rails or anything. Never saw it, so can't say for sure.
