dj, ... It's a stone's throw from the Virginia line. Curiously, it was built for a DOG race track, para-mutual betting etc. etc. Not sure what the thinking was, but I don't think such has ever been legal in North Carolina, especailly in the early '60's, the Dog Track's heyday. Obviously it was targeted towards the Virginia consumer, but without dogs and betting an attempt was made to convert it to auto racing. Historically, Junior Johnson's first Grand National race as a car owner was at the Dog Track Speedway in 1966 (Tidewater 200 GN event) with Bobby Isaac driving.
