Leland Raceway's ghost is still visible in this Terraserver image. Leland opened in1967 and made it almost through the '70's. Sam Ard, Hop Holmes, Jackie Rogers, and Richard Brickhouse...........the heat back in the day

The Leland Raceway was located on 'Wayne St.' in Leland, NC. Today it's a modular home park.....................duh

a typical saturday night at leland you would load up to go the fights and a race would break out.
leland had everything that a track could have as far as happenings, grandstand crashing, to someone sitting in a tree shooting out track lights, a car rolling up in the front stretch fensing coming off turn four, as well some of the most competetive racing i the carolinas, what a race track to attend on a saturday night.
someof the greatest drivers of the time came through that gate.
it has always been rumored that enough of the old track remains, to bring the old girl back, we could only dream, i would be there every saturday night, just due to the history alone.

i wonder where all the old racers of that day are now, if anyone could add.

there is another more modern race way in leland about 5 minutes away from me. As bigger cars raced at the track, more noise complaints came in and it was eventually shut down. sucks because i could have walked.

It`s the fireball raceway on chapel loop road in leland.They use to race go-carts,bandalor,an legends,it`s a paved track with state of the art facility!It`s now owned by a trucking companyan an sets idle.

fireball was built with a death wish, in location alone, nice track to small really for full size cars(jmo) but a nice facility no doubt.


the reunion would be a interesting idea, wonder how many would be interested and would attend. leland had alot of history, as many tracks do, maybe a eastern carolinas reunion would be more interesting, bringing people together from several tracks like:
wilson county speedway
all the coastal south carolina tracks
pender county speedway
old fayetteville speedway
sanford, harnett, and any other track from this area
naturally this would dirt tracks

yea me and my dad used to all lot. it was leland one week and pender co the next. i remember a guy who was sponsord by a uniform co. it was like a tarheel blue and white. i want to say his name was phil duffy or duffie anyway he would win all the time in late model.:smiley_797::check_flag2::icon_metal::Kool:: CAI30RID::dirt_race::lrc_rules:

Yes it is ,the old Fireball Raceway,its a paved track that is now closed!They ran Bandalero,Min Cup,an serval classes of Legends!!!Its no owned by Ace Trucking,beside the cement plant!Top notch place,built in mid 90`s just rode down there 2wks ago.They keep it up but there`s no racing!

i should get a legend and get sponsored by the company and use it as my practice track hahaha
