Stuarts Draft, VA-The Steelblock Mid-Atlantic Racing Tour would like to take this time to wish all of our competitors, sponsors and fans a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The 2009 schedule is currently in the works as we continue to work with many tracks, new and old, to secure 2009 dates. As we are all aware and effected by the current economy, many tracks are feeling the heat. This does not stop with the tracks however. Many touring series as well as weekly competitors will surely feel an impact in 2009. The S.M.A.R.T series has worked hard to offer a completely restructured format for each track that improves on track affordability and competitor overhead. The 2009 season will see set purse structures with shows at $1,500 to win and $150 to start. The top 6 non-qualifiers from the B-mains will receive tow money in the amount of one hundred dollars.

The 2009 season will bring bonuses to the Xtreme 8 as well. The top eight in points will receive a guaranteed bonus of $100 show money at each event. The importance of staying in the top eight in points will show benefits from the first race to the last race. This is bonus money given back at a time when it is needed most to curb overhead expenses by our competitors. Competitors must remember in order to collect your bonus you must stay in the top eight in points and be attending the event.

Membership for the 2009 season will also show added immediate benefits to our competitors. All 2009 registered S.M.A.R.T. members will receive discounts on entry fees. Only members will receive points and contingency awards. Unfortunately, our cost to produce each event has risen along with everything else and to offset this increase our membership fees will be one hundred dollars instead of the fifty dollars they were last year. We regret having to raise the costs, but we hope it will entice many drivers to register with the series for points and take a shot at the 2009 Championship. Registered SMART members will receive a discount on event entry fees. The cost for SMART members will be twenty-five dollars, instead of the fifty non-members are required to pay. Members will actually be able to save money on three or more races for the season. A membership that pays a return to its competitors is one way we are fighting to keep our competitors racing with the S.M.A.R.T series.

The Steelblock Mid-Atlantic Racing Tour would like to welcome Josh Thompson to the family. Most of you will have already had the opportunity to see what Josh is able to bring to the series, with the launch of the new website. Josh will be the Public Relations and Marketing Director for the series in 2009 effective immediately. Josh has already been working hard on bringing more to the series and our sponsors in 2009. He is very passionate for the sport and the series. Look for great things to develop with his addition.

Stay tuned to www.smartracingseries.com (http://www.smartracingseries.com/) for all updates and news for the 2009 season. The 2008 series awards event will be March 8th in Waynesboro, Va. This event will be open to the public and more details of the event will be coming soon.
