It's hard to tell there was an very active race track at Hemingway, SC in the 50's, and 60's, but 40 some years later the backstretch can be still seen. During the 1960 season the track ran Limited Sportsman rules under the Nascar banner. That year there were some famous names that finished in the final track point standings: Ralph Earnhardt 3rd, Cale Yarborough 6th, Jimmy Thompson 9th, and Joe Weatherly 14th.

Why couldn't i have found this website sooner?! haha, i joined as soon as i saw this post, even though its an older one. The Hemingway Speedway..., im interested in any stories anyone has to tell about this place. Im a native from Hemingway, my grandfather Mutt Powell, turned his share of laps here, my father and I farm the fields surrounding the track, what info i know, isnt enough. Haha, if anyone has stories or pictures they would like to share, i would be very thankful.
