Yeah cape,i know you're excited! You have thought long and hard about what color to paint it and what number.By looking at the pictures of the black/white color you chose, now i am looking forward to seeing it lettered up with the #45 on it!! And having the Carl Burris name on it,will top off the whole deal! I know you're gonna take pics of the sign painter as he letters it up,so i want you to email them to asap!!! So congrats to ya on a great decision you made on doing your car this way!! Like i said,i'm looking forward to 2009 for shows, track appearences, etc for these "yesteryear cars"!!! See Ya,Kenny:flip3::flip3::flip3:

Thanks Kenny, it has been a while coming up with the right paint scheme but if it were not for Old92 giving me a little encouragement to get rid of the XXX. LOL! It was all a publicity stunt, never meant to be permanent. The car will have some big "tires" to fill tomorrow so to speak. Will post some pics tomorrow night.
I've got to give a lot of credit to double00 too, he helped me with masking and painting the car, with his expertise in the right paint and clear it really made a difference. Thanks dbl00

Christmas came early in Shallotte, NC today, the car painting party was the best time I've ever had in a parking lot outside a car. LOL!
Here's some teaser photos for tonight. Do you realize I didn't take a single photo of the finished car!!!!!???? What was I thinking? So, here's a few shots of the wizard with a brush in action, many thanks to Larry Ferguson, sign painter, for turning an old car into a vintage stock car, the "Mason's Garage" Chevrolet. Thanks to Larry, Bobby, Jerry, Jack, Jeff and Bill for sharing in making history come to life.

Thanks for letting me tag along Jim. Learned alot about the vintage cars and was AMAZED at how Larry was able to free hand all the painting, and not have to re-do. You have a fantastic looking car, and I congratulate you on keeping a vintage car vintage. Thanks to everyone at the store for the hospitality, you really made me feel welcome, and if I can ever do anything for any of you, let me know. I will post my pics of the car when I get them uploaded. I DID get one of it finished LOL.

The car is modeled after the Mason's 1959 sportsman class car which did have rather narrow tires but your right, the wheels need to changed for the right look for the period. In the early sixties wider tires became more popular but this paint scheme is representative of the late 50's before the wider tires became the norm. Of course the model car had fenders, engine side panels and even runner boards (front fenders will be added in time). Things could change and it could take the look of 60's sporstman class car but for now the narrow tires are the look I'm after. Finally, the engine needs some maintenance and also will change the bumpers to the rear, sides and front, going with the round steel bumpers and replace the square nerf bars on the side. These things take time to get it right.
Time and money
Thanks for your comments, will post some finished photos soon.

Ok cape,i see now what ya mean (about the racing wheels and tires). They did run almost stock wheels back in the 50's,didn't they? Well, that's cool, she still looks good just like ya got it!! But that rascal would really look "mean" with some wider feet! I'm just picturing it in my mind! Gotta find ya and old helment now to lay on the inside when ya take it to a show! It needs to be one of those scarred up 'half helments' like they wore back then. I ride motorcycles and let me see what old helments that some of my riding friends have threw to the side! Sure do wish i coulda went with you guys to Bobby's place, but some people don't have as much money as others do,so we have to work!!!!!! But,at least i have saturdays off and we can do a lot of things this coming spring/summer in reference to vintage car shows. See ya cape.....

What's up Jman26! I just like that "wide tire look" don't you? Makes them old race cars come alive, don't it? Well, tell me! Did ya have some good eating at Bobby's? I don't know if i've ever been to Shallotte where Bobby is. Might have went thru there at one time heading somewhere else, but lord i don't remember. It would have been a long time ago!! Well,Jman, its good to meet ya on here and will talk to ya again. Well, let me say hello to ole Bobby before i go! Well, can't leave out Archie down there in South Carolina so Everybody have a good week-end and be back later.

I know what you mean Kenny, the wide rubber would make it look cool and maybe that is the way to go since most folks would want to see those fat tires.
PS. I work 4-10's have Fridays off.

It was fun and a real pleasure having everybody in the parking lot, we'll have to have another 'show', sometime. Y'll keep checking out the vintage racing Super-Site, Racers Reunion, web-site. A video was shot at the lettering ceremony, by the R-R director. It should be on the 'air' soon!
