What??? George!!! I'm sorry to hear that your selling your car. 2009 looks to be a break through year in vintage shows at some local tracks. I'm in the process of speaking with 2 tracks now that give a thumbs up on running a few shows. All the details need to be ironed out but it's looking good. Darn, I hate so see another car get sold off, one less set of wheels in the dirt. Well, hopefully someone local buys it.
If your having troubles fixing something I'm sure there are plenty of race shops around that could fix any problem you have.
Whatever your reason I understand, just wish you could have splashed some clay up on the doors before you let her go.
Best of Luck!
Jim
PS. Just got home from painting my car at a friends house from all white to nearly all black, it turned out looking awesome! Pick it up tomorrow. Photos follow

George I think I have seen that car up here, but it was a different paint and number. Would you happen to know if this is true. You don't hear of to many Olsen's down south.
But those cut off rear fenders are a drop dead give-a-way.............

Car was from Turner bothers up north. Still says so under the paint on the hood. Olson built the frame. The car ran about 10 laps in the way you see the pictures when I git it at Grand view Pa. I bought the car 10/13/2007 (bad day should have waited till the 14th)
I have NEVER driven the car. I had a driver take 1 lap at New Smyrna but the gears where from Grandview at 7:77. Those are STILL the gears in the car. I have bought 6 or 7 other gear changes PLUS new rims, tires, gages, seat belts. Had the car lettered and then had the (2) mishaps. One that got the RF about a 5 MPH shunt. Then the latest of the launch into the trailer. Again about 5 or 6 mph. Enough to knock a bad weld apart on the spindle which is being redone by a pro and braking the Alum. Caliper. Did not hurt the rim or tire, you figure that one out..
The reason for the sale is the car has a hand clutch and the throttle will never be correct for my bent and damaged right leg. BOTH shunts where caused by the hand clutch and no access to the kill switch since it is on the same side as the clutch.
The Carr will be race ready in about a week or so then someone can get it and enjoy it.
DO I want to sell it HELL NO but there are other things that make my wishes only a wish.
Unless someone can wipe out the memory of my in the ER with the bones hanging out from my wifes memory. (racing shunt).
As they say that is the story.

Your a business man, people buy and sell all the time. You just need to find another car that suits your driving style. I would recommend a more traditional car next time, one with vintage chassis, maybe even fenders. The modern N/E vintage mods are cool but are, for the most part, a vintage style body on a modern sprint frame. I might know of a car build it's only about $500 to ship one. Something to think about.

With the extraction of the car this Sunday I am going to take another deep breath and look at it again. My bad leg was a problem but the real problem was I was TO FAT to get in the car and get comfortable. NOW I am working on the Bo-Flex and have dropped 40# since July (last time I got my fat butt in the car. So we will see what happens when the car is in the shop and I can get around it.
Sold my 1980 Corvette. Next on the hit parade to go is:
1985 Xjs V12 HE coupe
1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II
24ft Grady White Center cabin with a re power and only 54 hours on it.
That will get my car and toy count down to a more reasonable level.
Sorry For teh long wind but this is like therapy for me. No one else to talk to so you guys are the lucky folks, SORRY>

I spend alot of time here George, come on here and talk any time you want or need to. I just don't know much about " vintage" racing, but it sounds intereting and I would like to learn more. I f you, Jim, and all the gang keep me updated on the shows, I would love to attend some of them.

Vintage cars are SIMPLE:
1. You must be an OFA member
2. Gotta be out of your mind about racing
3. Expect a collection being taken up by the neighbors to send you to a funny farm.
They are a lot of fun for us member of the Old Farts Association (OFA). Me I started going to races in 1953 at Hinchcliff Stadium In NJ. Now I want to relive some of those days and pass it on to younger people. I would sell the car BUT I look at the pictures from back in the day and it is noce to be able to go out and touch something.
I am going about this in a different way. I am going to REBUILD the driver instead of the car. Think he needs LESS PARTS!!!!
Jim this is the Vinyl work they did.

George...Local Race Chat is a good place to post your pride, pass your time, blow off steam and meet some good people (and maybe not so good at times) but if you want to see what LRC is really about go tot the Dublin Speedway link above, now that site has it all, for the moment, of course the dust is settling but when folks got frustrated they took it out on the Dublin Speedway forum.
I'm going with a sign painter, no vinyl.

Not much to know about vintage racing..old cars..old farts. LOL! If you want a car Jerry I will find you one with or without a motor and that goes for anyone else that has an interest in vintage stock cars or any vintage race car, I can find one for you and can set up the shipping of the car if you don't want to travel.
Right now there's a 1930 Chevy Coupe Modified with a Ford 302, just built last summer in Reading, PA. $5700 and Larry Glass will DELIVER IT!!! Larry owns a 1930 Ford Coupe and has no room for 2nd car. $5700 is not too much but you could probably get it for less if you bargain with him.
There's another 1936-37 coupe in Florida for sale but Larry's is a better deal in this economy.
The vintage thing is comparable to HotRod Clubs with one exception...WE DON'T CARE ABOUT GETTING DIRTY!!! And a ding or dent ads character. It's cool, laid back and you get to hang with legends of racing and not look like a freaking groopie.

You got the correct! My OLD pride and joy (1988 Testarossa) would keep me up at night everytime I took it to a show. Someone would TOUCH IT or bump into it. Then like a jerk I would rush over and wipe it off. That is gone now unless the thing gets bet up, like now, it is no big deal. It is a lot of fun to see the kids and the OFA look at the car and comment about what they see.
I let kids sit in the car to get their picture taken. They can not hurt anything. All I would let set in the Ferrari or any of our collector cars where just hot babes so I could try and remember that fun.

Again, here's someone's chance to own a piece of history...doesn't take much, just a little time and instead of dumping $4000 into a 4 wheeler, git yourself an old dirt racer and come have some real fun and you don't have to trespass to do it. Coming soon..."Classic Stock Car Club of the Cape Fear" is forming here in the Carolinas'. I know there's club's out there but we are taking a different approach...we'll be running exhibition races, no trophies, no winnings, but no gate fee's, only good publicity for the track, entertainment for the fans and track time for the club.
Like an old wise man once said..."If we wanted to race for trophies we'd get into OWM", this is simply entertainment, run as fast or slow as the driver feels comfortable with the car; some of these cars couldn't take 20 laps of punishment...THEIR OLD...however, SOME CAN!!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110329144021
Looks like an old modified Corvair, better git on it!!!!
One more thing....it's a lot cheaper in the long run to spend $3000 on a race ready car than it is to try and drag one from the yard and try and do it yourself so if your like me, light in trousers of knowledge as a mechanic, welder, fabricator etc, get yourself a car that runs and change the oil and plugs and talk to some folks that know how to work on the rest, and believe me, there's a lot of people that are more than willing to give advice and I mean that in a good way.

And it's a great idea but I think it was the timing. I don't know much about how to start a club but I do know that first it needs CARS, and preferably 3-5 committed owners to start with and that is about what we have now and if you want in you are more than welcome and I could use any tips you have. One thing going for the "Cape Fear Classic Auto Racing Stock Car Club" (CFCARSCC) or, Cape Fear CARS as the announcer will call us (joke) is nearby local track support (that has yet to be fully established.) The name is tenative but the ball is rolling and it hopefully will gain strength from a good reputation and committed members. Who knows what it will lead to however, the interest is there, the cars are there, we just need some tracks to really test the waters and hopefully get enough drivers to commit and from who I've gotten to know and talk to there is a REAL passion to form a club of strickly vintage stock cars in the Sandhills and Piedmont of N/S Carolinas.
PM me your email George, I'll add you to the group email list (not everyone has to be a member to receive news and updates.) Finally, I need to open a website and I have a good friend in mind with just the skills to make a really cool and effective website. In the future there will be club dues for expenses like reimbursing the web designer for his time, he's not interested in being a member, only helping me out. All these details will be ironed out but first we need a track or two to schedule us in so we can plan, meet and greet and possibly have a sit down discussion with all the potential club members on what "our" vision is and intentions are with exhibition racing. Displays are cool but people want to see these ghosts together on the track. Remember Darlington in September? WOW! That was some COOL beans there. I welcome any comments... here publicly or PM me, but I will tell you one thing, I'm going to see this thing through thick or thin and there will be obstacles but nothing we can't steer around.

George...I know it wasn't funny to get your car wedged in your trailer but the way you wrote on the CAARA website...well, you made it sound like a comedy. Quote: "...let an 83 year old put a car that was 5” to wide into the trailer he MADE IT FIT. I told him to stop at the beaver tail BUT he panicked, hit the gas and launched it in the trailer." End quote.
I can just see this little old timer punching the gas instead of the break...LOL! I'm sorry, but that's a funny image and I can just see the look on your face. LOL!

You have a choice LAUGH or CRY, to old to cry over a car so I had some fun with it.
My email is LRPWEB@bellsouth.net. I get tons of email all the time so I just have an electronic sorter put then in the correct folder for me.
The car is all re welded and being started on a path to a better life. I am setting the car up for me and will make it so I can drive it.
I had a offer for the car BUT he liked the 1980 Corvette better and bought that.
I know have a NEW DILEMMA how do you drive a 37 FT Motor home with a 28 ft enclosed trailer behind it? The physics of a turn just blows my mind. I need 2 lanes to pull out the coach as it is, I think I need a freeway to turn that thing!!! Well will make an empty run with it after I deliver the Corvette Tuesday.
I have TONS of contacts just take a peak at my real website www.leatherique.com (http://www.leatherique.com) we get around 54,000 hits a week. I am going to work with DAARA in 2009 for a couple of shows BUT you can count on me for some awards and such during the season.
